Our hearts are with everyone involved!

The Eastern Area Complex Incident Management Team, under the command of the Superior National Forest and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources are aware that a medical emergency occurred on the July Lightning fires involving an individual assigned to the incident at approximately 10:40 am today, Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the vicinity of Ely, MN.

Fire personnel and emergency medical services responded. The patient was transported to a medical facility for treatment. After arriving at the hospital, the patient subsequently passed away. When additional information is available and confirmed, an update will be provided.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and fellow firefighting community.

As you can see, Northern Minnesota might be a hot spot for large scale wildland incidents through the next few months. It is very important that everyone be vigilant and be responsible with any burning activities.

The totals are in. Morse Fall Lake Fire Department members put in a total of 2250 man hours working the local Wildland Fire incidents over the last few weeks. That is more hours than a full time employee works all year long! Just as impressive, 21 different department members assisted with staffing trucks and manning the Fire Hall. We had multiple trucks and even our fire boat on the fire for both day and night shifts.

We would like to thank first and foremost those department members who put their lives on hold to assist. Your dedication to your community is beyond what we could ever imagine. We thank you all!!!

Also, thank you to all the family members who kept things rolling in their households so we could keep our firefighters working.

Finally, we want to thank the employers who allowed these Firefighters to miss to work to be on the fire. Your flexibility in others time of need is greatly appreciated.

We are on Day 10 of supporting the July Lightning Incident Fires. Many of our firefighters have been spending very long days away from their families. Some of our firefighters however, are lucky enough to fight fire along with their family members! We also have been getting visits from our loved ones. We want to thank all of the families connected to our department for your continued support as we forge on with 24 hour coverage. Everything you all do at home to make it easier for our fire fighters to be on the line! Thank You EVERYONE for your continued support of our Fire Department. We appreciate every one of you!

Now that we (kinda) have our bearings and we have (maybe) a minute or two to breathe. This week has been nothing shy of surreal. Our department is working with the USFS on the current Wild Fire response in our community. We have assisted with the Fools Gold, Sioux and Camp fires. Our FireHall has been serving as a command post and meeting place for everyone responding to the Camp Fire, which falls within our Primary Coverage Area.

Chief Krueger has been working with County, State and Fire Officials to assist with organizing the response. Many of our department members have spent countless hours working on these fires this week. We want to thank them for their unwavering commitment to protecting the community we serve.

With the assistance of the MN State Fire Marshall’s office we along with volunteers from approximately 20 other Fire Departments throughout the region have been working on Structure Protection on these fires. Some of these fire fighters are driving 2 hours each way to cover a 12 hour day or night shift in our community! We are so very thankful for every one of these firefighters and their willingness to put their lives on hold to help our community!!

We also want specifically thank the employers and family members of our firefighters for their understanding and support that allows them to respond day after day. We know it’s not easy to fill in the gaps from their absence. We truly appreciate your flexibility during all of this.

We also want to thank all of you, the community response these last few days has been nothing shy of amazing!! Heather, Erin and the whole Vets on The Lake Crew, I don’t know that we can ever say Thank You enough for everything you have done! This group has been FANTASTIC!! There is what seems like a never ending supply of water, Gatorade, Ice, snack foods, toiletries, bug spray and much more. They have also provided full meals for all of these volunteer fire fighters. After 12 (or more) exhausting hours on the fire, and a long drive home ahead, these volunteer fire fighters have had warm meals prepped and ready when they get back to the FireHall. Thank You Thank You Thank You, Heather, Erin & Crew for all you do!

Morse Fall Lake Fire and First Responders want to put a major shout out there to our partners on Ely Area Ambulance. Our services work hand in hand on these calls. Many of these individuals are also on our roster!! We appreciate the hard work and dedication of all of our responders!!!

Near critical fire weather conditions creeping in close to our area. With the busy weekend in the area we all need to be vigilant.

Very dry conditions will occur today across most of the Northland. Near critical fire weather conditions are expected along and south of the Iron Range in northern MN where the strongest winds are forecast this afternoon and evening. A few hours of Critical Fire Weather Conditions possible in the Brainerd Lakes even late afternoon to early evening today.
