Spring Burning restrictions are in place. Please be smart! Contact the local DNR office for questions on burning regulations.

Additional spring burning restrictions begin today as warm, dry weather spreads across the state. ⚠️

👉🏽Burning vegetation such as brush, leaves, grass clippings, and branches is the number one cause of unintentional wildfires in Minnesota. Restricting this type of burning has helped reduce wildfires by 30%.

👉🏽Burning restrictions are in effect in Becker, Beltrami North, Carlton, Clearwater, Itasca, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, Roseau, and St. Louis counties.

👉🏽Restrictions remain in effect for Aitkin, Anoka, Beltrami South, Benton, Cass, Chisago, Clay, Crow Wing, Douglas, Grant, Hennepin, Hubbard, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Norman, Otter Tail, Pine, Pope, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Stevens, Todd, Traverse, Wadena, Washington, Wilkin, and Wright counties.

When spring restrictions are in place, burning permits will not be activated. Restrictions will be updated as conditions change. For statewide fire danger & current burning restrictions, go to www.mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions 🐦‍🔥🔥

🌬️Cooler temps don’t cancel fire danger. 🙅‍♀️

In the fall, plants dry out and leaves drop, adding extra fuel for wildfires. While fewer fires start this time of year, the ones that do can spread fast and burn hot. Falling leaves add continuous fuel to these fires making them challenging to put out.

Here’s how you can help prevent wildfires this fall:

✔️ Check burning restrictions and get your burning permit before burning large piles of vegetation.

🍂 Consider alternatives to burning leaves and needles, such as composting. Burning large piles of leaves and needles can create large flying embers that can ignite dry fuel nearby.

🚗 Park OHVs and vehicles on gravel or pavement. The hot exhausts can easily ignite tall, dry grass.

🔥 Keep campfires small and manageable. Always stay by the fire and put it out cold before you leave.

Conditions change quickly! Stay up to date with burning restrictions and fire danger at mndnr.gov/burnrestrictions
