Hello Everyone!
Ashley here. I wanted to do a season wrap up post. With Klondike being cancelled we only ran one race this year, the WolfTrack Classic Sled Dog Race.
Lost Lake had two teams entered this year. Haley and I each ran a team in the 6 dog class. I wasn’t sure how we’d do this year as our capacity for training was somewhat limited by busy schedules and little kids. It was stiff competition, but the A team knocked it out of the park and won the race by 6 seconds. Close shave! Mowgli led it again. He will be 9 this summer and June my other leader, will be 7. That pair has won the race 3 times. Mowgli is getting really close to retiring, and I think this was his last race. I’m really glad he was able to win it one more time.
Haley and her team pulled off an impressive 8th place for her 3rd ever sled race. With over 30+ teams competing, I couldn’t be happier with kennels success this season.
My team was:
Mowgli June
Clams Venom
Jedi Click
Haley’s team was:
Queso Owen
Sienna Hooty
Baba Jade
We had hoped to get more yearlings run this year, but with only having one race they’ll have to get their race experience next year.
I want to thank everyone that helped us this season. Thank you to my mom who helped with kids so I could train dogs and run the race. Thank you to Ryan’s parents Tom and Marsha who sponsored dogs and helped wrangle kids, and to his brother John who helped at the race. Thank you to Randy and Diane Schwanz who sponsored our kennel again this year! Randy also sponsored the race as well as volunteered for it. Thank you to everyone (Judee Saba Vesledahl, Sarah Iman, Sara Brummund, Marsha Miller, Deb Rodich - Rodie, Jodi Henry, Malia Maxwell, and Frank The Tank & Friends) who sponsored a dog this year! Thank you to the excellent vets at the Ely Vet Clinic for taking care our kennel’s health needs this year! Thank you to Haley Moog, who helped train and run the dogs this year. Thank you to my husband Ryan for your exemplary handling skills this season and for helping to train teams. Thank you to the VCC students for showing up and volunteering for the race! Thank you to everyone who helps get races on the ground and running! Thank you to the photographers that have shared photos of the dogs at the race with us. It takes a whole community of people to make things like this happen, and I appreciate you all.
Lastly, and most important, thank you to the dogs who ran their hearts out this season.
I tried to put names in the descriptions for photos, but if I missed you, tag yourself!
