JD Turner is a dedicated advocate and entrepreneur who has played a pivotal role in enhancing the skateboarding community in Berks County. As the owner of Holistic Skate Shop in West Reading, JD has spent the past decade tirelessly advocating for the creation of a free, public, concrete skatepark designed by skaters, for skaters. His vision culminated in the establishment of the Reading Skatepark Association in 2016. JD's relentless efforts, along with the support of the RSA, have finally borne fruit. Years of fundraising, grant applications, and planning meetings have led to the development of a new 22,000-square-foot skate park located at the corner of South 6th and Canal Streets in Reading.

Hello! Update from the fire on a “skatepark ramp” tonight:

The fire was not at the new Reading Skatepark. This fire occurred at Pendora Park where a few large pre fabricated skate ramps were being stored (they were moved from the old Hampden Park skate set up that were moved to Pendora years ago). This current set up at Pendora is not an active skatepark (no insurance or signage for active use). These pre fabricated ramps are sometimes made with composite and wood materials and burn. Most likely arsons/vandals that started a small fire and it spread quickly. Fortunately the new Reading Skatepark is made from 5000 PSI concrete and can’t burn. That is why our organization has been championing building parks out of concrete in the City and Berks County instead of pre fabricated ramps. Thank you to everyone that shared this post to us. In the future we plan on proposing renovations to Pendora to make it an official “skatepark”. A huge thank you to the Reading Fire Department for handling this fire.
