This event is open to the public and attracts thousands of shoppers throughout the tri-state region. Whale of a Sale has a large number of veterans including many shoppers who have been attending for 20+ years. Whale shoppers include business owners stocking up on antiques and collectibles, fashion divas in leotards to make trying on clothes a snap, and savvy shoppers who recognize a good value. Proceeds from Whale of a Sale support the Junior League of Wilmington’s Mission. And our current focus area is to promote Period Equity in Delaware through our initiative, ! JLW Mission Statement:
We are an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League of Wilmington welcomes all women who value our Mission. We are committed to inclusive environments of diverse individuals, organizations, and communities. Some of our past projects include making improvements to facilities at the Delaware Adolescent Program which affords pregnant teenagers a means by which to continue their education and receive pre-natal care; conducting life skill workshops at Bayard House, a residential program serving homeless or transitional pregnant minors; and a mentoring program for granddaughters of the families served by the Wilmington Senior Center. We also assisted with the passage of Erin's Law in Delaware. In June 2016, The First State became the 28th state to pass Erin’s Law which requires that all public schools in each state implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program.
