Non-Profit Organization We are located in the North-Western part of Alamance County, North Carolina.

Our fire department is incorporated and organized under the laws of the State of North Carolina as a non-profit corporation. The primary purpose of the corporation is to afford fire protection to the community, including the portion of Guilford County joining the Altamahaw-Ossipee School District. The secondary purpose is to aid, assist and cooperate with any and all organizations, private or public, in promoting safety to property and protection of lives. The Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department is organized exclusively for charitable, religious, educational, and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 (c ) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

Notice to all home owners in the Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department Fire District. If your homeowners insurance renews on or after January 1st 2027 make sure that your homeowners insurance company recognizes our new ISO rating. Our previous rating of a 4/9E has improved to a class 3 rating for the entire fire district, some residents may have been classified in the 9e class previously. This new rating can possibly save you substantially on a homeowners insurance so be sure to check any renewals happening on or after January 1st 2027.

🚨 A-O FIRE DEPARTMENT ISO RATING ANNOUNCEMENT! 🚨
I cannot say enough about how proud I am of our staff, volunteers, and our great Board of Directors!
As Fire Chief, I am extremely proud and honored to announce that the Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department has received the results of our latest ISO inspection.
Through the hard work, dedication, commitment, and countless sacrifices put in day in and day out, Altamahaw-Ossipee Fire Department has improved our ISO rating to a CLASS 3, effective January 1, 2027! 🎉🔥
This accomplishment is a direct reflection of the incredible people who make up this department. It takes teamwork, training, dedication, and a willingness to continually improve to achieve something like this.
Great work to everyone! This would not have been possible without each and every one of you and the sacrifices you make for this department and the community we serve.
I am truly proud to be your Fire Chief and proud to stand alongside such an amazing group of people.

Is anyone missing a puppy? Located on Altamahaw Race Track Road. If this is your dog please contact the Fire Department 336-584-0526 so we can get you in touch with who the dog is being cared for at the moment. Was wandering in the road please share so we can get this dog reunited. Looks to be well cared for and very friendly. If you can foster if we cant find the owner please comment or call.

Just a reminder the State wide burn ban is in effect. After 6:00 p.m. this evening there will be no warning tickets it will be a citation written so don't get caught burning. Please share this so we can get the word out.

The Altamahaw - Ossipee Fire Department will be hosting the 2026-2027 public budget meeting. This meeting is open to all residents of the A-O Fire district. The meeting will be held on April 20th @ 7pm. The meeting will be at the A-O Fire Department located at 2806 Old 87 Elon NC 27244. The meeting will allow residents of the A-O Fire district to review and ask any questions about the departments 2026-2027 budget.

Just want to remind everybody if the power goes out and you're powering things with a generator make sure that you have proper clearance from your house to the generator. Running a generator close to your house or in a garage can lead to carbon monoxide buildup which is a silent killer. Be sure that you have a working carbon monoxide detector in your residence. Even stand by generators that are professionally installed, we have had instances where carbon monoxide was getting into the house at lethal levels. If you feel a headache flushing of the skin or any other signs of carbon monoxide poisoning please call 911 as carbon monoxide poisoning can be lethal in minutes.
