Introducing the latest fund in our Elmwood Community Foundation family of funds - the Elmwood-Murdock American Legion Post 247 Baseball Fund. The purpose of this fund is to establish funding for the maintenance, repair, and improvement of fields and facilities, both short and long term; acquisition, maintenance, and replacement of equipment; to support player development and training; and for expenses related to maintaining a Legion baseball organization for current and future generations.

There is still time to support this program financially and have your donation grow with a percentage match from the Midlands Community Foundation. But, time is of the essence as all donations must be dated and received at Midlands Community Foundation by Monday, January 5th in order to be eligible for the match. Please see full details below, including an online option.

We are excited to welcome this fund into our family as we celebrate the youth of our community.

We've been made aware of a recent change in USPS processing and postmark procedures and mailed applications may experience delays that could impact an applicant’s placement in line.

Veterans are always flown on a First to Apply, First to Fly basis (priority given to WWII and Terminally Ill Veterans, full list of eligibility can be found online). A Veteran's position is determined by the date their application and supporting documentation are received online or postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service. To avoid potential delays, we strongly recommend submitting applications online and sending documents via email. This method will ensure faster receipt and more accurate application dating. Mailed applications will certainly still be accepted but understand delays in postmarking may also delay the date of application. You can also check with your local Post Office about getting a local hand cancellation on your stamp.

While many Veterans may not be comfortable with online, we encourage family, neighbors, and County VSOs to assist with this process. More information, current eligibility, and applications can be found online at www.midwesthonorflight.org/veterans.

Still a ways off, but it is never too early to get this event on your calendar. If you've been to one, you know exactly what we're talking about. If you haven't been to one yet, then make plans now to attend. You will not go away hungry! More likely, you'll walk away in a food coma. Can't you smell those pancakes on the gridle right now? :)

It's been two years ago today since Christian finished his Eagle Scout project of the flag collection box at the Elmwood G.A.R. Hall Veterans Museum. As of today, we have collected 460 flags in the box to be retired. Yes, you read that correctly, 460 flags! Thank you, Christian, for your foresight in seeing this need in our community.
If you are in need of a new flag when you deposit yours for disposal, The American Legion Post 247 can help you out with that. We sell 3' x 5' and 4' x 6' polyester flags, as well as the 2.5' x 4' pole sleeve flags for the side of your house. Just let us know what you need.
