Teamsters Local 456 showed up strong tonight at the New Rochelle City Council public hearing, standing shoulder to shoulder with our brothers and sisters in organized labor.

We want to recognize Vice President Dominick Cassanelli for delivering powerful testimony on behalf of working people; calling out the reality that while development is booming, too many local residents are being left behind in low-wage jobs without real benefits or career pathways. His message was clear: development must mean good-paying union jobs, real apprenticeship opportunities, and true access for New Rochelle residents.

A special thank you to our Business Agents Joe Tavares and Mike Martinez, and to all of our members who came out and stood strong in support. Your presence made a powerful statement.

We also want to thank Michael Yellen and the New Rochelle Alliance for Justice for their continued advocacy on behalf of residents and workers. Our missions align in the fight for local hiring, living wages, safe job sites, and the ability for working families to thrive in their own community.

Tonight was a strong show of solidarity, and a reminder that when labor stands united, our voices are heard.

Proud to share that our Union was honored to take part in the 25th Annual Hudson Valley Construction Career Day!

This incredible event continues to open doors for young people by introducing them to the many opportunities within the construction industry. From hands-on experiences to connecting with skilled professionals, it gives our youth a real look at rewarding career paths they may not have considered before.

Investing in the next generation is essential, and events like this play a vital role in building a stronger, more skilled workforce for the future. We’re proud to be part of that vision and to help inspire tomorrow’s tradespeople.

Teamsters Local 456, Louis A. Picani and Roger G. Taranto spent the day in Albany discussing bills with some of our elected officials regarding issues that affect Teamsters Local 456 and other organized labor groups. It was a successful day, as all the Senators and Assembly members that they spoke with were receptive to the Union's needs. The Union is also working with our elected officials in Albany, the New York State Thruway Director, and Governor Hochul, to get bills (A8854/S8184) passed.

Grateful to Governor Kathy Hochul for signing S7485/A8465 into law and standing with the working men and women of New York State.

This important legislation is a major victory for the Teamsters, ensuring that concrete and asphalt haulers on public works projects finally receive the prevailing wage protections they have long deserved. These drivers are essential to the success of our public infrastructure, and this law rightly recognizes the skill, responsibility, and hard work they bring to every job.

This is also a win for New York’s construction industry and for the many signatory contractors we proudly partner with. By aligning standards across neighboring localities and extending protections that have long existed in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, this law provides consistency, fairness, and a level playing field for responsible contractors who are committed to doing things the right way.

We also want to extend sincere thanks to State Senator Shelley Mayer, Assemblyman Steve Otis, and the countless other legislators who supported our efforts and advocated on behalf of the working men and women of Westchester, Putnam, and New York City. Their leadership and commitment to fairness made this victory possible.

Teamsters Local 456 believes strong labor standards and strong labor-management partnerships go hand in hand. This law reinforces that shared commitment to quality work, fair competition, and economic dignity for the workers who build and maintain our communities.

Thank you to everyone who stood with us and helped make this long-overdue protection a reality.

Great news for Westchester and all of New York!

Governor Hochul and NYSDOT’s announcement of two major paving projects on Routes 133 and 100B is another strong investment in our infrastructure and our communities. These projects will make our roads safer, more resilient, and smoother for everyone who relies on them every day.

Just as importantly, investments like this support good-paying union jobs and strengthen organized labor — including the hardworking men and women who make sure our roads and bridges are built to last.

As we celebrate this progress, we also need to ensure that Governor Kathy Hochul signs S7485/A8465, which will finally bring prevailing wage protections to the concrete and asphalt haulers — many of them my Teamster brothers and sisters — who work tirelessly on our public works projects every day. It’s time to make sure those who do the right thing are competing on a level playing field.
