Things Alabama is known for: football and ... tornadoes. You'll only spend a small fraction of the year under a tornado watch or warning, but in those moments it's very important to be on your game. Empower yourself through knowledge and preparation. These tips will help as we approach two of our three most active months of the year⬆️, but also year-round. [2026 Severe Weather Awareness Week]

✅Have a plan for you, your family, and pets — Multiple ways to get (trustworthy) forecasts and alerts, a designated safe location, and supplies.

✅Know your location on a map. This is important because we use maps to show you where storms are and where they're headed — Pull up a map of Alabama. Can you quickly pick out your county and city/town? How about nearby counties, cities/towns, and landmarks such as roads?

✅Be a hero — share life-saving preparedness tips, plans, and weather forecasts/alerts with those that may not be as weather savvy.
