The Young Marines is a non-profit youth education and service program for boys and girls, that promotes the mental, moral and physical development of its members and focuses on character building and leadership and promotes a healthy drug free lifestyle.

We would like to congratulate some of our staff. This past weekend, some of our staff attended the Dept. of NY Marine Corps leagues 95th convention. While at the convention several of our staff were elected/appointed to positions at the Dept. level. Instructor Janis Lunger was elected to serve as the Judge Advocate, Instructor Joe Sabatini was elected to serve as the South West Area Vice Commandant, Unit Commander Rob Ostrander was appointed to serve as the dept. Paymaster. In addition, Our very own Unit Commander, was also presented with the Distinguished Service Award.

Again we would like to congratulate Instructor Lunger, Instructor Sabatini & Commander Ostrander. Semper Fidelis and keep up the great work setting the example for our Young Marines.

🇺🇸 D-DAY REMEMBRANCE | JUNE 6, 1944 🇺🇸

Today, the Southern Tier Young Marines pause to remember one of the most pivotal days in history — D-Day, June 6, 1944.

Eighty-two years ago, thousands of brave Allied soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines crossed the English Channel and stormed the beaches of Normandy. Facing unimaginable danger, they stepped into history with courage in their hearts and freedom as their mission. Many never returned home. Others carried the memories and scars of that day for the rest of their lives.

Their sacrifice was not for personal gain, recognition, or glory. They fought for something greater than themselves — for liberty, for future generations, and for a world free from tyranny.

As Young Marines, we strive to learn from the examples set by the Greatest Generation. Their courage, selflessness, honor, and commitment to duty continue to inspire us today. The freedoms we enjoy every day were secured by men and women who were willing to answer the call when their nation needed them most.

Today, we encourage our Young Marines, families, and community members to take a moment to reflect on the immense sacrifices made on the shores of Normandy and throughout World War II. Remember those who never came home, honor those who served, and ensure their legacy is never forgotten.

🇺🇸❤️ The Southern Tier Young Marines had the honor and privilege of participating in the Elmira Memorial Day Parade as we joined our community in remembering and honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our great nation. ❤️🇺🇸

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend or a parade—it is a solemn reminder that our freedoms were paid for by heroes who gave everything. Today, our Young Marines stood proudly, learning firsthand the importance of remembrance, respect, patriotism, and gratitude for those who never made it home.

As mentors and instructors, moments like these remind us why programs like ours matter. We strive to raise young people who understand service before self, respect for our military and veterans, and the responsibility each generation carries to preserve the legacy of those who came before us.

We were also incredibly honored to have the opportunity to meet one of our valued program supporters, Elmira Mayor Daniel Mandell, who graciously paused for a photo opportunity with our Young Marines. Thank you for your continued support of youth leadership development and community engagement. 🇺🇸🤝

To our Gold Star Families, Veterans, active-duty service members, and all who carry the weight of sacrifice—please know your loved ones are remembered. Their courage continues to inspire future generations.

This Memorial Day, the Southern Tier Young Marines ask our community supporters, families, friends, and followers to join us in remembering the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Country.

Today is more than cookouts, gatherings, and the unofficial start of summer—it is a day to pause and honor those who gave everything so we could enjoy the freedoms we have today. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty will never be forgotten. ⭐

As we continue teaching our youth the values of leadership, honor, courage, respect, and service, we remember those who paved the way through their selfless acts. We encourage everyone to take a moment today to reflect, share stories, visit memorials, or simply honor the memory of our fallen heroes.

To our community supporters, military families, veterans, first responders, and followers—thank you for helping us preserve the meaning of service and sacrifice for the next generation. ❤️🤍💙

🚑❤️ This past Saturday, several of our new recruits, along with instructors who missed our previous session, had the opportunity to attend Infant & Adult CPR and First Aid Response Certification training. Everyone was excited for the hands-on experience and eager to learn skills that could one day help save a life. 💪🩹

At Southern Tier Young Marines, we believe leadership means being prepared to serve others—not only in our communities, but whenever someone may need help. These valuable life skills build confidence, responsibility, and readiness in our youth and volunteers alike. 🇺🇸

A HUGE thank you to our incredible community sponsors, Lifesaving Outreach Services, LLC, for providing this amazing opportunity and sharing their expertise with our unit. We are especially grateful for the time, patience, and instruction from Instructor Mathews. Your dedication to teaching lifesaving skills is making a lasting impact on our Young Marines and adult volunteers. 👏✨

🇺🇸 Southern Tier Young Marines – Elmira Downtown Cleanup 🇺🇸

Today our Southern Tier Young Marines proudly participated in the Elmira Downtown Cleanup at Wisner Park alongside so many amazing community partners! 🌿🧹

A huge THANK YOU to our Corporate Sponsor, Empower Federal Credit Union, for their continued support—we were honored to spend part of the day working side-by-side with their team and grabbing a great group photo together! 📸💙

Our Young Marines showed up ready to get to work, helping clean up winter debris and making a real impact in our downtown community. 💪

But as always, every event is a chance to learn! 🇺🇸
Thanks to our Unit Commander, the Young Marines were introduced to a line search pattern, reinforcing that every opportunity is a teaching moment. This method proved incredibly effective in scanning for litter and debris that might have otherwise been missed. 👀🗑️

We would also like to recognize and thank our dedicated Southern Tier Young Marine Instructors who tirelessly and selflessly give their time to mentor and teach our youth. Many of them have no vested interest other than wanting to see these young individuals succeed and build brighter futures—and it truly shows. 💙

We are so proud of these young leaders for continuing to live out the Young Marines mission—building leadership, discipline, and a commitment to a healthy, drug-free lifestyle while giving back to their community.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Southerntier Custom Fabricators, 🙌 the Elmira NY Kiwanis Club, First Heritage Federal Credit Union, event sponsors, as well as the City of Elmira B&G for making this day possible! 🎉

🇺🇸 Busy days with the Southern Tier Young Marines! 🇺🇸

Our Young Marines have been hard at work training, learning, and growing! This past month, they focused on the importance of flag etiquette and the proper way to respectfully fold our Nation’s flag—understanding not just the how, but the why behind these time-honored traditions.

From hands-on instruction to practicing as a team, these young leaders continue to show dedication, discipline, and pride in everything they do. 💪

They’ve also been sharpening their public speaking skills, learning how to confidently speak aloud, maintain proper eye contact, and present themselves with professionalism and pride - skills that will carry with them far beyond the program. 🎤👏

In addition, they’ve continued their ongoing DDR (Drug Demand Reduction) training, reinforcing their commitment to living a clean and sober lifestyle while leading by example in their schools, homes, and communities. 👏

We’re also proud to share that our unit is growing! We’ve welcomed new Young Marines/Recruits as well as dedicated Adult Volunteer Staff and Instructors who are stepping up to mentor and lead the next generation.

Their commitment to our mission - leadership, citizenship, and community service- remains strong, and they’re always ready to give back.

🇺🇸 ATTENTION SOUTHERN TIER COMMUNITY 🇺🇸

After months of planning, coordination, and what can only be described as extensive negotiations…

We are proud to announce that the Southern Tier Young Marines have officially been selected to pilot a NEW national program…

🎖️ “Junior Drill Instructor for a Day” Certification 🎖️

That’s right—starting this summer, our Young Marines will have the opportunity to temporarily assume the role of Drill Instructor…

…for their parents. 😳

📋 Program highlights include:
• 0500 wake-up calls (yes, weekends included 😅)
• Room inspections with ZERO tolerance for dust
• Proper greeting-of-the-day enforcement
• Mandatory “Motivation Runs” around the neighborhood 🏃‍♂️
• And of course… corrective training for any backtalk

Parents will be evaluated on:
✔️ Attention to detail
✔️ Response time
✔️ Ability to function before coffee ☕

Failure to comply may result in being placed on “extra duty”… including lawn policing and kitchen field day 🧽

We believe this program will build stronger family bonds, mutual respect… and possibly a newfound appreciation for what our Young Marines do every drill weekend 💪

Registration packets will be sent home soon. There is no opting out.

…Just kidding 😆

Our Young Marines had an amazing time touring your facility, learning about aviation history, and experiencing the exhibits firsthand. Opportunities like this truly bring learning to life and inspire the next generation of leaders! 🙌📚
