Chemung County Poverty Reduction Coalition The coalition seeks to begin a community conversation about the prevalence and increase of poverty in Chemung County.

The Chemung County Poverty Reduction Coalition seeks to bring a diverse group of community leaders and individuals to work together towards the goal of reducing and preventing poverty in our communities. Working with a Cornell faculty member and an AmeriCorps VISTA, and in conjunction with other Extension counties, we will address the needs and assets of our county, and work together to address the gaps. Community and educational workshops will inform residents about the facts of poverty, and perceptions and realities of poverty. We will then work together to develop a Poverty Reduction Plan. This coalition brings non-profits, educators, business, and public officials together, and addresses issues of youth development and education, jobs and training, health care, mental health, housing, nutrition, physical well-being, and economic development.
