Up for foster to adopt (full adoption when neutered)

Meet BOSS!

Boss is a big boy with an even bigger heart, and he’s currently accepting applications for his next adventure partner!

People person? Absolutely.
Friendly with other dogs? You bet!
Long, leisurely walks? Sign him up! (He’s great on a leash!)
Car rides? This man is ready to buckle up.

Boss is a gentle giant who loves being around people and enjoys the simple things in life. A nice stroll, a car ride with the windows down, and someone to share his day with? Sounds like his kind of heaven. Fair warning: Boss may take up a little more room on the couch than your average dog. You might need to reconsider your seating arrangements. Your bed might become his bed. And your personal space? Well, let’s just say Boss hasn’t read that chapter yet.

But when you’ve got a heart that big, there’s plenty of love to go around!

This handsome boy deserves more than a kennel and a shelter bed. He deserves a family who will take him on adventures, enjoy those long walks beside him, and welcome him home for good.

Boss is ready to trade shelter life for the good life. Could that be with you?

He’s available for adoption at Southern Tier Animal Control Shelter
Adoption applications can be filled out at www.southerntieranimalcontrol.org
Please share! Let’s help this gentle giant find his people. His forever family is out there, and we’d love to help them find each other! šŸ’™

Meet Frosty!

Hey everybody! Frosty here! šŸ’™

I have an important question, Has anyone informed my people that I am, in fact, extremely handsome? Because honestly, I feel like these pictures make a pretty convincing argument.

I came to the shelter as a stray, and unfortunately nobody came to pick me up. So now I’m officially looking for something pretty special: A forever home.

I’m around 2 years old, and I’m a very friendly guy who already knows how to sit on command! I’m still working on my leash manners because, well, I’m a strong young fellow and sometimes my legs have their own ideas about where we’re going.

I’m not neutered yet, so for now I’m available through a foster-to-adopt arrangement. Once I’m neutered, the adoption can be finalized!

I’m still pretty new around here, so the humans are getting to know me and will be working on my dog and cat testing soon. We’ll keep everyone updated as we learn more about your Frosty!

In the meantime, I’ll just be over here practicing my best ā€œplease take me homeā€ face. Okay, maybe I don’t actually have to practice. This face is apparently doing just fine on its own.

If you’re ready to meet this handsome snowball, please visit the shelter website to fill out an application.

Please share Frosty’s post! You never know who might be scrolling along, looking for exactly the kind of goofy, gorgeous, blue eyed boy who’s been waiting for them. šŸ’™ā„ļø

-Public notice-

Southern Tier Animal Control had to increase some Town contracts slightly for a few different reasons. These adjustments were not extreme, but we are asking for a little bit more to sustain the animal shelter because of the new New York State law and the rising cost of nearly everything.

Running an animal shelter in New York State, has become nearly impossible!! sense the new law Article 26 – C has come into effect.

-Statement on Proposed Animal Control Contract Adjustments-

Local animal control operations and municipal sheltering services face an unprecedented combination of heightened statutory mandates, escalating fuel costs, and a sharp increase in community service calls. To maintain public safety, humane standards, and legal compliance, adjustments to our town animal control contracts are necessary.

1. New York State Article 26-C Mandates

New York State’s Article 26-C law establishes strict, uniform operational standards for all animal shelters and rescue organizations. The law mandates:
• Veterinary injury checks within two hours and full exams within 24 hours.
• Core vaccinations administered within 48 hours.
• Mandatory state licensing, regular inspections, specific housing and temperature controls, and designated daily exercise and socialization time.
While state enforcement offers an educational transition period, the underlying labor, veterinary care, record-keeping, and facility compliance requirements immediately increase the baseline cost of housing and processing every impounded animal.

2. Escalating Fuel and Transportation Expenses

Field response, transport to authorized shelters, and routine patrol mileage require continuous vehicle usage. Regular unleaded gasoline in New York State has risen significantly—averaging approximately $4.47 per gallon (with regional and seasonal peaks running higher) compared to prior-year baselines. These sustained fuel costs directly inflate the per-call and per-mile overhead of animal control officers.

3. Increased Volume of Service Calls

The frequency and complexity of animal control dispatches—ranging from stray and abandoned companion animals to welfare checks—have continued to climb. Higher call volumes mean more man-hours in the field, more frequent transport runs, and heavier utilization of contracted shelter facilities.

Conclusion

Current contract rates no longer reflect the real-world expenses of compliance, fuel, and labor. Adjusting these contracts is a critical step to ensure our community stays compliant with New York law, protects public safety, and guarantees that stray and distressed animals receive the legally mandated care they deserve.

Meet Alvin, Simon & Theodore!

Okay, friends, we have a very special trio to introduce you to today!

Meet Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Three handsome boys who apparently decided that being abandoned was not going to stop them from sticking together.

These three came to us after being abandoned, and their story is actually pretty sweet. Theodore was the only one found inside the house. But apparently Alvin and Simon weren’t about to let their buddy face the world alone. Within just a couple of days, they showed up looking for him.

Because apparently even cats have a ā€œyou don’t leave your partner in crime behindā€ policy. 😭

And now we know these boys each have their own personalities:

ā¤ļø Simon is our big black cat, laid-back gentleman weighing in at around 16 pounds of pure love. He’s a little shy at first, but he’s certainly not going to run away from you, especially if you’ve brought food or catnip. Those are two excellent ways to get on Simon’s good side.

ā¤ļø Alvin is a black and white cat, another big boy with a sweet personality. His tipped ear tells us he was once part of a TNR/feral community, and although he’s adjusted wonderfully to indoor life, he still spends plenty of time watching the world through the window. You can almost see the little adventurer in him wondering what’s happening outside.

ā¤ļøAnd then there’s Theodore, the youngest and slightly smaller member of the gang. He’s an absolute sweetheart, very friendly, playful, and always ready for some fun. His favorite activities include playing, getting attention, and apparently hanging upside down for photographs.

And there is one thing these three can ALL agree on: CATNIP.

These boys have clearly been through a lot, but they haven’t lost their sweetness, or their bond with one another.

Whether they ultimately find homes together or separately, we would love nothing more than to see Alvin, Simon, and Theodore each get the safe, loving home they deserve.

Three boys. Three personalities. One very important mission: Find them their forever people.

If you’re looking for a handsome feline companion with a little personality, a lot of love, and a potentially dangerous appreciation for catnip.

Visit www.southerntieranimalcontrol.org to fill out an application and set up an appointment to meet the boys! šŸ’•
