To all the “hatters” we are definitely continuing with the need for hats! After taking inventory this is what we need & have on hand.
Girls 1-3 need 500 have 395
Girls 7-9 need 500 have 251
Girls 10-12 need 500 have 262
Boys 1-3 need 500 have 222
Boys 4-6 need 509 have 386
Boys 7-9 need 500 have 195
Boys 10-12 need 500 have 27

We have more than enough girls 4-6 so that is why they aren’t listed.

If anyone has extra yarn or fleece that they would like to donate will be sure to give it to those making hats.

Thank you to everyone who makes all the beautiful hats!

Many thanks to all our donors who help to make the Holidays special for the children of Chemung County!

It’s with deep sadness that the Arctic League acknowledges the death of one of our Directors: Charlie Lechliter. Charlie joined our Board in 1993, and at the time of his passing was our second longest, current serving, Director. Charlie often diverted the limelight to others within the organization, but he was a very important cog in our wheel. His assistance with the operation of our warehouse, his electrical experience and his dedication to helping children in our area have a memorable Christmas were paramount to his efforts to make the Arctic League successful. Charlie single handily created our “make a hat” program, which encouraged volunteers - near and far - to knit hats for our children recipients. This work will continue, to encourage an avenue for community volunteers to help the league, and to provide a meaningful gift to many children within our area.

We extend our condolences to Charlie’s wife Lisa, his children and extended family. RIP Charlie - we will miss your effort, your hearty laugh and your presence, but we will carry on in your memory.

The Arctic League participated in Wreaths Across America Saturday at Woodlawn National Cemetary. President Karen Miller-Ring and Board Member Joe Kane placed a wreath honoring our first Arctic League recipient James Loftus, known within the Arctic League as “Friday”! James was discovered and helped by members of the Arctic League back in 1912 and went on to serve his country in World War One. In helping James, the members of the Arctic League realized that they could help others in need and grew into the Charity we have today.
