Based in New York, the Himalayan Elders Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit tax-exempt organization. It is a community initiative which provides time and space for our seniors to gather, practice dharma, socialize, share life experiences, enjoy community connectedness and enjoy a renewed sense of independence. From our humble beginning of 9 elders in 2012, Himalayan Elders Project now has 103 active

members and 16 volunteers helping run the project. Himalayan Elders Project was created with the core idea of selflessly serving our seniors – to appreciate their sacrifices for us and to atleast try to give them as much love, care and joy as we can.

Since 2012, the Himalayan Elders Project has been the first and largest nonprofit serving Tibetan and Himalayan seniors in New York. 3 days a week for the past 13+ years and still running strong.

13+ years. 290,000+ free meals. 250+ elders cared for every year. Across New York, India, and Nepal.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, every dollar goes back to our elders — their meals, their wellness, their dignity.

We were the first to answer this call, and we’re still here — rooted in our community, honoring the elders who raised us. 🙏

We're honored to share that Phurbu Tsering — owner and master chef of Pho Tibet Restaurant in New Paltz and Woodstock — will be joining us at this year's Elders Picnic on Friday and Saturday, donating his time and talent entirely pro bono. Working alongside our own cook, Phurbu-la will help make sure our seniors are served the very best food this year. We're deeply grateful to Phu-Tsering for his generosity and selfless service to our community.
