For months, our Coalition advocated for a tree preservation ordinance that would inventory the number of trees removed from private property through a tree removal permit. Twenty of 31 nearby communities had ordinances that protected trees on private property during new construction, and 15 of 31 had ordinances that protected trees on private property when a resident wished to remove a tree on their property for any reason. We currently have no idea how many private property trees are lost each year to disease, storms or age, but we've learned that clearing lots of ALL trees (even mature trees) during new construction is common practice. With an average of 100 new builds per year, that is a devastating loss in our TREE CITY. While the environmental benefits between a sapling and a mature tree are vast, this new tree incentive program is a small step in the right direction. We're not done advocating for a tree preservation ordinance, and we hope you will join us in our efforts. To learn more, contact us at [email protected]. In the interim, please consider participating in the incentive program while funds are available.
We're excited to launch our new Private Tree Incentive Program, helping eligible homeowners plant qualifying trees on private residential property while supporting long-term stormwater management efforts throughout our community.
Residents may be eligible for a 50/50 cost-share reimbursement of up to $500 for approved tree purchases and installation. Funding is available on a first-come, first-served basis, so be sure to review the program requirements and apply before planting.
