New Life Community Development Corporation Though their peers moved toward suburbia, they moved toward the urban poor. Relationships were built among the homeless, broken, and hurting.

As a demonstration of God’s love, we partner with our neighbors to create pathways to physical, emotional, and social health that confront cycles of intergenerational poverty. The mission of New Life Community Development Corporation is to provide relief, cultivate restoration and model reinvestment among the poor and marginalized in Elmhurst and Corona as a demonstration of the love of God. More than twenty-five years ago, New Life CDC was birthed among the poor of Elmhurst and Corona in Queens, NYC. Our community is made up largely of working class immigrant families faced with layers of existing disparities that were heightened due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent economic crisis. The founders, Pete and Geri Scazzero, led a team of committed volunteers from the New Life Fellowship congregation who reflected God’s loving heart for those on the margins. Today, New Life CDC continues to provide relief, cultivate restoration, and models reinvestment in the neighborhood. We desire to meet the needs and cultivate the strengths of the poor and marginalized. It is done through community-building and it is done as a demonstration of God’s compassion for the vulnerable. Annually, we serve 2,000 children, youth, adults, and senior neighbors through culturally and linguistically accessible programs and services. We provide holistic support to our community through direct service, referrals, and resources to those that are food and housing insecure, undocumented, un- and underinsured, unhoused, linguistically isolated, and marginalized.

🍦 Back-to-School Ice Cream Social! 🚌💙

One of our favorite ways to connect with families at the family residence is by coming together to celebrate and support parents as they prepare their children for a successful school year ahead.

We had an amazing time enjoying sundaes, distributing backpacks filled with school supplies to 96 students, and providing haircuts to help our students head back to school feeling fresh!

A heartfelt thank you to all of our supporters, staff, RAY-LIC BARBER, and amazing volunteers who helped make this day so special. Your generosity and time make a meaningful difference in our community.

Here’s to a wonderful school year ahead! See you next year! 📚✨💙

This summer, we’ve been piloting a new client choice model for our walk-in pantry. Rather than receiving pre-packed bags, clients can select the food items that best meet their household's needs, creating a more personalized, dignified, and empowering experience.

We’ve already been able to identify some client favorites. Some of the most requested items include milk, rice, cooking oil, cereal, and canned fruit.

We look forward to learning from this pilot and using what we discover to continue improving access to healthy food with dignity and choice.

Our Food Pantry is open for walk ins on Tuesdays 5pm-7pm and Saturdays 10am-12pm.

Our PS16 cohort also concluded their program year with coffee and celebration!

Julia Cho-Craig | Brooklyn Private Chef guided participants through the art of brewing a delicious cup of coffee using the pour-over method. Together, they focused on grind size & consistency, temperature, timing, presence, and tasting notes. The class was both educational and fun! Chef Julia made the experience welcoming, creating a space to learn, connect, and enjoy great coffee together. A special shout-out to Devoción Coffee for generously donating bags of coffee beans so they can continue practicing their new skills at home.

This special gathering marked our final session together. Each participant was presented with a certificate of completion in recognition of their commitment, dedication, and personal growth over the past nine months.

Thank you to everyone who took this journey with us!
