The conference theme this year will be Lake Resilience in the Face of Change, and speakers will focus on ways we can adapt our shorelines (and our behaviors) to meet the changes in our future. From climate to land-use to funding to demographic change, how can we best protect our lakes and make them....

Think of the lake you love. Do you have it pictured in your mind?
Now imagine it cloudier. Warmer. Overrun with invasive plants. Imagine your toes squelching in
algae blooms.
That future is nearer than you might want to believe. But together, we can still change the
outcome.
By donating to our Challenge Grant, every year-end gift is doubled.
You can protect what matters.

Help us meet this challenge and make your donation go further, by supporting on-the-ground programming and actions that directly benefit Maine's healthy lake future.ย

Snow and ice season is here, and it's important to ensure our property management does not negatively impact lake and watershed health. ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒฟ

Road salt keeps walkways and driveways safe, but it is toxic. Using more than you need does not improve safety, and the extra salt washes into soils, groundwater, streams, and lakes, where it can harm amphibians, invertebrates, and long-term water quality. ๐Ÿง‚๐Ÿšซ๐ŸฆŽ๐ŸŒŠ

๐’๐š๐ฅ๐ญ ๐’๐ฆ๐š๐ซ๐ญ ๐“๐ข๐ฉ: Use only the amount needed for traction and safety. Spot-treat icy areas instead of covering whole surfaces. โ„๏ธโš ๏ธ

Snow piles collect everything from a winter of driving and walking: salt, sand, vehicle fluids, leaves, and debris. When the snow melts, that runoff needs a safe place to go. ๐ŸŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ›ข๏ธ๐Ÿ‚

and leach fields to avoid damage, contamination, compaction, and flooding. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿšซ

A good way to ensure healthy spring growth is adding some salt-tolerant vegetation in areas where meltwater soaks into the ground. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ’งโ˜€๏ธ
