Daksh Suryadevara, co-founder and lead youth volunteer at Art of Giving Corporation and a junior at Kingswood Oxford School, has organized an annual food drive and fundraiser for CT Foodshare (For 2025), securing $1500 in cash contributions and about 300 pounds of non-perishable food. Daksh also volunteers at CT Foodshare & other food banks and helps with food sorting and packing activities.

The urgency of this work is underscored by current data, with 1 in 7 residents in Connecticut experiencing food insecurity. These figures continue to rise due to escalating costs for food and housing, alongside increasing unemployment. Food insecurity becomes even more prominent during government shutdowns when programs such as SNAP get cut. The Art of Giving corporation, a non-profit founded by Daksh, and their peers, has raised and donated over $12,000 in cash and several thousands of pounds of food to CT Foodshare over the past few years.

The monetary & food donations were handed over to Meg Dubois, corporate giving manager, on 29th Dec 2025.

We are so proud of Daksh and all our volunteers who show up to ensure no neighbor goes hungry. Thank you for your continued support as we work toward a hunger-free community.

Dhruv is currently a senior at Kingswood Oxford School in West Hartford, CT. He has supported several local soup kitchens & food banks including CT FoodShare. Dhruv's efforts have yielded substantial contributions to the cause. The funds he raised in 2023 amounted to an impressive sum of money reaching the $5,500 mark. In addition to the substantial monetary contribution, he has also collected nonperishable food items for the pantry. This prestigious accolade came with a scholarship grant of $2500, a sum that Dhruv chose to donate to FoodShare's special food distribution drive-thru, a crucial initiative held during the pandemic to ensure food availability for those in need.

"My dedication to community service is driven by an innate duty to give back. It was during our bi-annual family visits to India and my time volunteering at FoodShare that I came face-to-face with the harsh reality of food insecurity. The staggering statistic of 800 million individuals grappling with this issue globally, a number exacerbated by the pandemic, left an indelible impact on me.To address this pressing concern, I co-founded a non-profit organization named Art of Giving. In addition to organizing several food drives and fundraisers in the US, we have extended our support to families in India who found themselves unemployed due to the pandemic. Looking ahead, my commitment remains unwavering. I am determined to continue supporting FoodShare, an organization that has brought about significant positive change by providing an astounding 39 million meals in the past year alone. Additionally, my aspirations include assisting vulnerable individuals in less developed nations, with the ultimate goal of alleviating the widespread issue of food insecurity".
