A fifty-four percent drop in fentanyl deaths from the peak should dominate every news cycle. Instead the same outlets that treated every earlier spike as proof of systemic failure now treat the reversal as background noise. The chart does not care about narrative. It shows fewer bodies, fewer grieving parents, and a supply line that is no longer running wide open.

Silence from the usual platforms is not accidental. Coverage that once framed every overdose as an indictment of enforcement now disappears when interdiction, precursor controls, and pressure on the cartels produce results. Americans who lost neighbors and relatives during the climb have a right to see the descent reported with the same urgency. They do not need another round of lectures about root causes while the numbers fall.

The work that cut the death rate is unglamorous, stopping the pills at the border, dismantling distribution cells inside the country, and refusing to treat traffickers as a social-services problem. That approach can be measured in lives that were not lost this year. Keep applying it and the lines keep falling. Look away and pretend the data does not exist, and the next surge writes itself.
