Since 1919, Optimist volunteers have been bringing out the best in youth, in their communities, and in themselves through a variety of service and volunteer projects. The Vision of Optimist International is to be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential. d Friday of each month for its regular membership meeting and gathers socially on months that have a 5th Friday. MISSION: By providing hope and positive vision, Optimists bring out the best in youth, our communities and ourselves. VISION: Optimist International will be recognized worldwide as the premier volunteer organization that values all children and helps them develop to their full potential. PURPOSES: To develop optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed; to promote an active interest in good government and civic affairs; to inspire respect for the law; to promote patriotism and work for international accord and friendship among all people; to aid and encourage the development of youth, in the belief that the giving of one’s self in service to others will advance the well-being of humankind, community life and the world. America 250 Flag Day Celebration - June 13th 1pm - 2pm

Join Gilmer County as we celebrate Flag Day 2026 with a special patriotic ceremony honoring our nation’s history and heritage as part of the America 250 commemoration leading up to the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The event will be held at the Gilmer High School Football Stadium and will feature a powerful tribute to the American flag and the freedoms it represents. The program will include a presentation on the history of our nation’s flag by the Daughters of the American Revolution, a community singing of “God Bless America,” and the dramatic unfurling of a 50-foot by 100-foot American flag, one of the largest flags in the nation.

🎾 That's a wrap on the 5th Annual Justin Elliott Memorial Tennis Tournament! 🎾

Despite an early Saturday rain shower, our players showed up armed with towels, blowers, and squeegees and made sure tennis happened. Thankfully, the sun eventually cooperated, and we enjoyed a fantastic weekend of competition, friendship, and community.

Thank you to our players, our wonderful sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who helped make this event such a success. Special thanks to Grill Master Mel Locklear for keeping everyone fed!

Most importantly, thank you for helping us honor and remember Ellen Grant’s son Justin Elliott. His legacy continues through the friendships, sportsmanship, and community spirit that make this tournament so special.

Please share this grant opportunity with individuals and agencies supporting the youth in our community!

The Gilmer Optimist Club is pleased to announce that through our local fundraising efforts we have set aside funds to support qualifying Gilmer County organizations who provide youth-specific projects or programs.

The Club is accepting Applications through June 30, 2026. Applications must be fully completed and submitted by this date in order to be considered. The grant committee will review applications and notify award recipients by August 15, 2026. Financial awards will be presented to successful applicants on September 2, 2026, at the Gilmer Optimist Club meeting. The award recipients must be present to receive grant funding.

Completed applications along with supported documents should be submitted via email to [email protected].

We appreciate your interest in the youth of Gilmer County and look forward to working with you!
