"When you're at the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on."
— Theodore Roosevelt

Life can bring challenges that test our strength, patience, and hope. In those moments, it may feel like the path forward is uncertain. But resilience isn't about never struggling—it's about choosing to keep going, one step at a time.

While we can't always control the difficulties we face, we do have the power to influence what comes next. Every decision to persevere, seek support, learn from setbacks, and keep moving forward helps shape our future.

At Appalachian Children's Center, we believe that healing and growth are journeys built through small acts of courage and determination. No matter where you are today, remember that your current circumstances do not define your destination. The choices you make today can help create a brighter tomorrow. 💫

MAY was another month of walking alongside children and families on their journey to healing.

Here’s a look at the impact we made together last month:

🖍 13 Forensic Interviews Conducted
⏳ 107 Client Hours in Therapy Services
👩‍👩‍👧 86 Cases Coordinated through our MDT

Each number represents a child’s story — and our community’s commitment to hope, healing, and justice.

A huge THANK YOU to Karen and David Apple for their generous donation of stuffed animals to Appalachian Children’s Center! 💜🧸

These comfort items mean more than words can say for the children who walk through our doors — whether they are here for a forensic interview or participating in therapeutic services. Sometimes, something as simple as a soft stuffed animal can help a child feel just a little safer, calmer, and more supported during a difficult time.

Karen and David also donated several pieces of gently used luggage (all in wonderful condition) for local foster children entering foster care. We are currently acting as a liaison for these items and will be passing them along to our amazing partners at Gilmer County DFCS as soon as possible. We are incredibly blessed to work hand in hand each day with compassionate community partners who care deeply about the well-being of children and families in our area. 💜

One of the most beautiful things about our community is that this level of kindness and generosity is not uncommon here. We are continually humbled by the way our community shows up for children and families in need. We truly live in a place filled with compassionate hearts, and we never take that support for granted.

If you would like to help support the children we serve, we gladly accept donations of commonly needed items here at ACC. We also have an Amazon Wish List where you can view our current needs and have items shipped directly to our center. 💜

💙🏡 National Foster Care Month 🏡💙

May is National Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the children and youth in foster care, and to honor the foster parents, kinship caregivers, caseworkers, and advocates who support them.

Children enter foster care for many reasons, often after experiencing trauma, instability, and/or loss. What they need most is consistency, compassion, and safe relationships that help them heal and grow.

At Appalachian Children’s Center, we recognize the courage it takes for children to navigate change—and the impact that caring adults can have when they provide support, patience, and understanding. Foster families and caregivers play a vital role in helping children feel secure, valued, and hopeful for the future. 💛

Thank you to everyone who helps children find safety and support.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month—and a gentle reminder that healing doesn’t look the same for everyone.

For children who have experienced trauma, progress might look like a smile after a hard day… a moment of trust… or simply showing up.

At Appalachian Children’s Center, we celebrate those quiet victories—because they matter more than words can say.

💚 Healing takes time.
💚 Growth takes courage.
💚 And every step forward is worth honoring.

Supporting caregivers helps protect children.

Research shows that when parents and caregivers feel connected and supported—by family, friends, neighbors, and their community—they are better equipped to provide safe, stable, and nurturing environments for their children.

When that support is missing, stress and isolation can increase, making it harder for families to navigate challenges in healthy ways.

A simple act of encouragement, a listening ear, or offering help can make a meaningful difference.

Because when we support caregivers, we help keep children safe.

Long weekend, longer reflections. ❤️🤍💙

One day doesn’t seem like enough to thank all those who’ve sacrificed so much. Today, we remember the heroes who gave their lives for our freedom—and we carry their legacy forward with gratitude and respect.

At Appalachian Children’s Center, we honor that sacrifice by continuing our mission to protect, support, and advocate for children and families in our community.

Our office will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day as we remember and honor those who served.

💙🧩 National Missing Children’s Day – Tomorrow, May 25th 🧩💙

National Missing Children’s Day was first proclaimed by President Ronald Reagan on May 25, 1983, in memory of Etan Patz, a 6-year-old boy who disappeared from a New York City street corner on May 25, 1979.

Each year, the U.S. Department of Justice commemorates this day by honoring the heroic and exemplary efforts of agencies, organizations, and individuals working to protect children. National Missing Children’s Day is also dedicated to encouraging parents, guardians, caregivers, and all those concerned with children’s well-being to make child safety a priority.

This day serves as a powerful reminder to continue efforts to reunite missing children with their families and to honor those who remain dedicated to this critical work.

At Appalachian Children’s Center, we stand with families, communities, and professionals working to keep children safe and supported. 💛
