The first-ever NSH Connect Pop Up Event was a success! πŸŽ‰

Last week, NSH members in the NYC area came together for an afternoon of networking and ongoing education. Topics ranged from leadership in Mohs to quality practices in an AI-driven lab environment, plus conversations around IHC standards and real-world lab challenges.

A big thank you to NYU Langone for hosting.

Ever wonder how a histologist sections a spider fang?
Spoiler: conventional histology doesn't cut it.

Damien Laudier, HTL(ASCP)QIHC, adapted a technique from fossil preparation and geology to produce something that has never really been done before: high-resolution histological sections of spider chelicerae, revealing tissue detail that micro-CT and SEM can't capture.

With 52,000 known spider species, there's a lot of histology left to discover.

What keeps you motivated after 20+ years in healthcare?

We put that question to NSH members at the 2025 NSH Histotechnology Convention in Long Beach. Chandra Garrett, Supervisor/Histotechnologist at Atrium Health, didn't hesitate: it's for the patient.

What's YOUR answer?

Live tissue imaging is making margin evaluation faster and more accurate than ever!

Don't miss Michael Giacomelli, PhD, our opening keynote for the 2026 NSH Convention in San Antonio. His session on live-tissue histopathology for surgical guidance draws from a clinical trial of 133 skin cancer surgeries, with results showing faster and significantly more accurate tumor margin evaluation than conventional freeze and section methods.
