As a case manager working with people experiencing homelessness, Olexia knows how hard navigating housing systems can be. That’s why she encourages anyone considering Habitat to apply.

“A lot of people don't know about the down payment assistance for first-time homebuyers… I couldn’t imagine doing this on my own. Having access to resources and more knowledge makes it feel less scary.”

Today, homeownership gives her security, savings, and the freedom to create a life she loves, all while she works toward becoming a licensed mental health counselor.

Meet Ruthi, an English professor, longtime volunteer, choir singer, and grandma whose historic Ellensburg home needed a little extra care.

After decades of giving back to her community, Ruthi’s well-loved porch and a few other aging parts of her home were ready for repair. Thanks to a tip from a friend and our Habitat SKKC Repair Program, she received a rebuilt porch, safer heating, fixed wiring, and help clearing her yard, all completed in just a week.

Now the porch is safe, sturdy, and claimed by her grandson Baxter as his “workshop,” while giving Ruthi a peaceful corner of her home back.
