You might notice some activity at Yakima Canyon Interpretive Center recently! Our yurts are being constructed for our Pond to Pines camp programs! These are 25' round hard-walled yurts with metal roofs. They are designed for year round use so watch for more programming coming from KEEN for the fall! We still need to install a hammerhead turnaround for a fire truck and so are raising funds to complete the project. We're disappointed to announce the cancellation of some of our summer camp programs due to lower-than-expected enrollment. We understand that families often make last-minute decisions, but as a non-profit, we had to make timely hiring and planning decisions to ensure the success of our programs.

Unfortunately, this meant we couldn't wait for final numbers and had to adjust our offerings. We regret that we lost an employee opportunity due to this uncertainty.
We're committed to providing quality programs and are exploring alternative options for the summer. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to working with our community to make future programs a success.

There is still time to register for KEEN Summer Camps for ages Kinder through Grade 5! Camp "Outdoor Skills" has options for 1 or 2 day camps, or sign up for the whole week! Outdoor Skills (July 13 & 14): Focus on outdoor skills including shelter building, plant identification, and more. Cost: $120. Water Discovery (July 15 & 16): Swimming, fishing, fun camp games. Cost: $120. Creative Critters & Crafts (July 17): Create nature art, learn about local wildlife, and enjoy storytelling. Cost: $60

Thank you to everyone who entered their coloring pages into the Shrub-Steppe & Forestland of Kittitas County contest jointly held between KEEN, and City of Ellensburg, WA Government ! The Environmental Commission and Library Board members voted and selected 7 winners in different age categories. Posters are displayed at City Hall. The grand prize winner gets one week of KEEN Summer Camp for free and other prizes are gift bags with goodies from Suncadia!
