Please join the CWU Muslim Student Association and the CWU Museum of Culture & Environment at 5:30 PM on Weds. May 19 in order to celebrate the Bean Pie, an important culinary tradition that is part of the Muslim experience in the U.S.
During the 1930s, the Nation of Islam made the very first bean pie in order to establish a unique culinary and cultural identity that broke away from the sweet potato pie, which was associated with slavery. In this event, we will hear from Slate journalist Aymann Ismail, who has examined the bean pie in a short film. We will also have an opportunity to eat bean pies made by Abu’s Homestyle Bakery, located in Brooklyn New York.
This in-person event will take place in the SURC Theatre and will follow all COVID-19 safety guidelines (masking, social distancing, sanitation). It is an opportunity to join together, learn about and celebrate Muslim American culture, and enjoy a tasty part of American history!

Due to recent escalating events that are occurring in Palestine such as the forced expulsions of Sheikh Jarrah, the Al-Aqsa raids, and the bombs in Gaza, MSA is hosting a sit-in in support of Palestine on May 15th from 3pm-5pm. Co-sponsored by Ellensburg Calls to Action, ASCWU, and Diversity and Equity Center, this sit-in is to host dialogue with fellow CWU students and faculty about the situation in Palestine and the deeper historical context to why these escalating events are occurring. May 15th is also the day we’re Palestinians remember the Nakba, where over 700,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled from Palestine in 1948. We hope all will attended and show their solidarity for the Palestinian people

**CWUMSA IN SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINE**
Statement by the CWU Muslim Student Association (CWUMSA) on recent developments in Jerusalem

CWUMSA is deeply concerned about the serious escalation of tensions in East Jerusalem over the past few days.

CWUMSA unequivocally condemns the violent attacks against civilians at the al-Aqsa Mosque compound, an ancient site of spirituality and worship that holds deep significance for people all over the world.

CWUMSA respects the fundamental human rights of Palestinians and all people, and affirms its respect for the protection and preservation of human life and heritage sites.”
CWUMSA reiterates its support for the Palestinian people and recognizes their right to establish an independent state based on the 1967 borders agreed upon by the United Nations.

The world sees the Israelis breaking every law disregarding human rights. This is something that all muslims whether they are friendly with Israel or not should condemn. I believe people in Malaysia and I myself condemn this dastardly act by the Israelis in seizing property belonging to the Palestinian. - Dr Mahathir bin Mohammad

International Muslim Women’s Day !

'Observe your duty to Allah in respect to the women, and treat them well.' - Prophet Muhammed ﷺ

This is a day to celebrate Muslim women and flood the Internet with positive representations of who Muslim women are. Anyone can take part, from uploading pics on social media of the Muslim women in your life to showing some love to your favorite Muslim women accounts to follow. One of the easiest ways you can create space for Muslim women is simply by hitting share or retweeting content on your social media and elevating the stories you care about.
