Sent as a newsletter previously, we would like to take a moment to share the sad news of Jayburger's passing with our wider audience. Jay truly had such an impact on our program and on the horses we serve. His steady, reliable presence will be greatly missed.

If you have any special memories or photos of Jay you would like to share with us in the comments here or on the post, please feel free to do so. We would love to see them.

On a recent Sunday in September, we said goodbye to Jayburger, one of our oldest and most beloved team members. He passed away due to complications of laminitis at 19 years old, after more than 15 years with After the Races, almost from the very beginning. He was not just a horse; he was truly part....

Available for adoption in Fair Hill, MD: Union Gem is a 4 year old, 16.1+ hand, bay gelding that came to us recently in partnership with Beyond the Wire in Maryland. He is a very handsome guy with a lot of presence and some of that may come from his great breeding, being by Union Rags and out of a Tiznow mare. While he was in training at the track he was always a bit slow and had some issues with the gate, so his connections decided to let him go without ever sending him to his first race.

Gem arrived to us in great shape and was quickly seen my our vet who found him sound and uncomplicated on his intake exam. He even arrived barefoot and still jogged nice and sound on the concrete! He has no known limitations and should be able to go in any direction.

Gem is still setting in to life at ATR but seems like a really good guy. We were told his connections including his vet at the track all really liked him and enjoyed working with him. He has no vices and while he arrived barefoot we'll likely get front shoes on him soon. Like all our horses, he's getting some nice time to be a horse and let down from training at the track, but he is available to the right home with the experience to restart him themselves.

He is definitely one to take a chance on!

One of the best 'views from the office' is from the back of Honors Due. This guy is so much fun to ride and work with. While a prospective adopter rode another horse he was happy to just stand in the middle of the arena and take a nap in the sun. Feet out of the stirrups, I didn't have any cares at all either. The ability to just stand and watch the world go by is truly underrated. 💜

This guy is available for adoption at our farm in Fair Hill, MD. Link in comments

Available in Fair Hill, MD: Jericho Marsh is a big, gorgeous 11 year old gelding who stands just a hair over 17 hands. This big guy is beautifully bred being by First Samurai and out of a Rahy mare, and for those who know, it's no surprise he's got such a solid build. He originally retired from racing at the end of 2020 after a career of 30 starts and was adopted soon after coming through ATR the first time. He was recently returned due to financial restraints on his owner and no fault of his own. He comes back to us with almost 6 years off the track and a lot of great experiences to speak for!

Jericho had a terrific intake evaluation with our vet who noted he had excellent muscle development, great feet, and an excellent prognosis to go in any direction. He is a little asymmetric behind, but in no way that is limiting. We've only just started riding Jericho again (to be fair, he hasn't been back long!) and we can tell he has some good training in there. His first adopter did a good bit of dressage, trails and some jumping with him though it's been a bit since he's been going over fences and would need a bit of a restart there.

Sitting on Jericho is to know what it's like to sit on a powerful horse. He's not just big, he is in excellent condition and has a lot of what I like to call "potential energy." He's a fun horse to ride, and has some good training, but he needs some refreshing and is not suitable for beginners. He's just a big, powerful dude!

He would make a really fun mount for a confident adult amateur, or make a great all-around partner for someone who enjoys setting goals and working toward them through lessons and training. If you like a big, forward-thinking guy and don't mind doing some refreshing, you'll get the benefit of his time spent off the track and have one really awesome partner.

Jericho has no vices, gets along well with other horses in turnout, and is currently front-shod. He's up to date on everything and ready to rock and roll!
