Thrusday we had the opportunity to host AgXplore Day!
β¨ We had 270 5th grade students join us from MaGaheysville Elementary, South River Elementary, River Bend Elementary and Elkton Elementary. β¨
FFA members did an amazing job planning, setting up and running this event. Each member that helped out today expanded their leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills as they navigated through the day.
π Hog Raising and Showing - Chase Wilcher shared his knowledge from his barn to the show ring. Chase demonstrated how he works with his hogs and explained essential show equipment. π
π Goat Raising and Showing - Eli Conley shared his knowledge on raising and showing goats. Eli shared common equipment used to prepare goat for show and demonstrated how to walk a goat! π
π±Life Cycles of Plants - Imanol Camacho went over the life cycle of plants from germination to flowering. Imanol demonstrated how to plant seeds then helped students plant their own sunflower seed! π»
π Citrus - Riley Davis & Sutton Swecker explained where majority of citrus is produced and shared interesting facts about citrus. Riley and Sutton demonstrated and helped students make their own homemade lemonade! π₯€π
π Poultry Farming - Peyton Hilbert & Jax Ganoe went over poultry farming and biosecurity. Peyton and Jax kept students engaged with glitter β¨ and flour to demonstrate how fast diseases and bacteria spreads when not following hygiene protocols before entering and after exiting a poultry house. π
π£ Ag Fact Fishing - Nathan Douglas & Dylan Huyard had students fishing for ag facts. Students split up into groups to catch a fish, answer the corresponding question and match it with the correct livestock species. π£
π Ag Safety - Collin Roberts & Ethan Shull explained safety around common farm equipment and why rollover protection structures are important. Collin and Ethan even explained the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a dirt bike and four wheeler! π
π Where Does My Food Come From? - Paxton Sager & Jonathan Segovia used a handmade map of Virginia to show students where most commodities are produced in Virginia to create a Hamburger! Paxton and Jonathan helped students create their own mini hamburger. π
πPop tart and πTyson, πΌbottle babies, were also a huge hit!
