On Saturday October 17 the quarterly flag retirement workshop and ceremony for Howard County was held at the Ellicott City VFW. Approximately 30 individuals from numerous veterans organizations, Scouts, Cub Scouts, Sons of the American Revolution Charles Carroll of Carrollton chapter, and the DAR gathered to separate the stars from the stripes of around 20 large plastic bags of tattered and faded U.S. flags. Then a solemn ceremony was held to individually retire the separate elements of one representative flag to the fire: 13 stripes and the blue field of 50 stars. The remainder will be respectfully burned at a commercial facility.

In September 1780, Benedict Arnold sold West Point. The plan was nearly perfect — until a cannon fired without permission, a borrowed enemy coat, and a letter sent to the wrong man unraveled it in 72 hours...."

Four members of the Charles Carroll of Carrollton chapter traveled, with other members of the MDSSAR, to Brooklyn NY to attend the 250th commemoration of the Maryland 400 at the Battle of Long Island (or Battle of Brooklyn), August 27, 1776. There was a memorial ceremony held on the site of the "Old Stone House¹" where the names of the 256 Men from Maryland who were killed or missing were read aloud. This was followed by a wreath laying, a 3 volley cannon salute, and a 3 volley musket salute, followed by Taps played on a horn.
The delegation then visited the Maryland 400 monument in Prospect Park, which was erected by the MDSSAR in 1895.
