Elko National Cemetery Dedication Scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026

We are pleased to announce that Nevada’s first National Cemetery dedication ceremony is scheduled for Friday, September 4, 2026, at 10 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the cemetery, 3602 Jennings Way, Elko, Nevada 89801. The VA Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Samuel B. Brown, a Nevada resident, is hosting the dedication. The ceremony is expected to last one hour, and the public is invited to attend.

“Dedicating Nevada’s first VA national cemetery is a great moment for the state’s Veterans, especially those in northern, rural areas of the ‘Battle Born State’,” said VA Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Sam Brown. “This beautiful national shrine will provide a convenient, dignified burial option for Veterans in and around Elko County for generations to come.”

We expect Elko National Cemetery to open for burials in late Fall 2026.

We will dedicate a separate update to the process of scheduling services at Elko National Cemetery when we get closer to opening the cemetery for interments.

EVC is super excited to announce we are the POW/MIA Balloon Sponsors again this year! And once again that means we have 6 spots available for our local veterans to have the chance to ride in the balloon! We had so much fun last year and hope you'll join us this year. To enter your name for a chance to ride, please visit https://elkoveterancorps.com/evc-rmbf-2026/ and fill out the entry form. Names will be drawn August 30th.

IMPORTANT! Please note that while the majority of the events we hold or participate in welcome all family members, due to the limited spaces available the balloon rides are ONLY for veterans. You are more than welcome to bring along helpful adult crew members that can help get you up in the air and chase you around town, but the ride itself is limited to veterans only.

GOOD LUCK!!
