The Northern Nevada Moses Project was built from the ground up right here in Elko by people who believed that rural communities matter.

Today, we continue serving families and communities across Northern Nevada, but we can't do it alone. Unlike organizations with large government funding streams, we rely on community support, local partnerships, volunteers, and foundation grants to continue our mission.

Let me tell you how Northern Nevada Moses Project began.

In 2020, during the height of the COVID pandemic, an Elko family decided to become foster parents.

Like many people, they believed they were prepared.

Their goal was simple: provide a safe place for children to heal while their parents worked toward reunification. They completed the training, became licensed, and opened their hearts and home.

Then the phone rang.

Two young girls desperately needed a place to go. Their grandparents, who had been caring for them, could no longer do so.

The family said yes.

What happened next changed everything.

The girls arrived with very little. The clothing they had was dirty, worn out, and didn't fit. There were immediate needs—clothes, shoes, hygiene items, bedding, comfort items, school supplies, and countless necessities most families never have to think about purchasing all at once.

The foster family quickly realized something that no training had fully prepared them for:

Love is essential.

But love doesn't buy shoes.

Love doesn't fill a dresser.

Love doesn't provide school clothes, toothbrushes, winter coats, or a bed.

And in Rural Northern Nevada, there was nowhere to turn.

The nearest resources were hours away. There was no local clothing closet. No emergency support system. No organization dedicated to helping children entering foster care, kinship care, or guardianship placements.

Families were saying yes to children in crisis, but they were doing it alone.

That wasn't acceptable.

So Northern Nevada Moses Project was born.

What started as one family's struggle became a mission to ensure no child entering care would go without basic necessities and no caregiver would have to shoulder that burden alone.

Today, we support foster families, kinship families, guardianship families, biological parents working toward reunification, and families in crisis throughout Rural Northern Nevada.

Because we've learned something important:

Children cannot begin to heal from trauma until their basic needs are met.

They cannot focus on school if they don't have clothes that fit.

They cannot build trust if they don't feel safe.

They cannot dream about tomorrow if they're worried about today.

We know foster care isn't the answer to every situation. In fact, our goal is always to support healthy families and successful reunification whenever possible.

But when children need a safe place to land, someone has to be ready to say yes.

And when those families say yes, Northern Nevada Moses Project says yes to them.

Every backpack.

Every pair of shoes.

Every bed.

Every hygiene kit.

Every emergency need met.

Every child reminded that they matter.

That's what your support makes possible.

Because no child should have to heal alone.

And no family willing to help should have to do it alone either. ❤️
