A decorated Naval Aviator, Commander Calder holds the distinction of being the first female graduate of the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN). Her story of courage, leadership, and breaking barriers is sure to inspire.

The Community Foundation of Elko County is excited to announce the recipients of the 2025 grant awards.

The grant focus for this year was intended to enhance the effectiveness and sustainability of those organizations serving the Elko area through capacity building grants.

$45,200 was awarded to 6 nonprofits serving Elko County:

• Ruby Mountain Resource Center for the completion of their life skills kitchen
• Nevada Classical Academy Elko for faculty and staff training
• Northeastern Nevada SAFE for training and workshops for volunteers and advocates
• Wells Family Resource Center for security cameras
• Nevada Outdoor School toward the purchase of an educational outreach van
• Society for the Preservation of Western Heritage toward the rehabbing of their current building
