It’s Giving Tuesday!

Here are 5 ways you can support the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship fund! You can support us by your donations, spreading the word to your network and following us on our social media platforms.

With your support, we’re able to give a 4-year renewable scholarship to all awardees to financially assist them while in college along with a paid summer internship. We wouldn’t be able to do this with YOU, our supporters!

IT’S OFFICIALLY GIVING TUESDAY!

As we enter the season of giving to our family and friends, we encourage you to donate to the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship Fund.

We hope you enjoyed our 2nd year doing the "WHERE ARE THEY NOW?" Series as we showcased awardees who have graduated and are current students. We’re so proud to see how much they’ve thrived as students and beyond!

Your donations allow us to continue giving to the students in our community to alleviate some of the financial burden that comes from tuition costs.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

As we approach Giving Tuesday, we want to highlight some of our awardees, past and present, so you can see how incredible their journey has been thus far.

Sage Tawfeeq is a 2021 Awardee the R.W. Sorrell Scholarship and a 2025 graduate of Rowan University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cellular Biology and a minor in Chemistry, finishing with
a 3.21 GPA. As a student, Sage conducted pharmaceutical research, was a charter member of the Rowan University Student Chapter of the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers and received various honors like a Community Service Award and the Bayard Rustin
Outstanding Social Justice Leader Award.

Sage is currently attending Georgetown University where she’s pursing a Master of
Science in Biohazardous Threat Agents and Infectious Diseases, with a concentration in
Biomedical Policy and Advocacy.

We’re so proud of Sage and can’t wait to see how she thrives in her field!

The Chick fil A community scholars program currently has the 2026 program open for applications. This program was created to assist students who plan to continue their education in college, vocational, or graduate school programs. Scholarships can be up to $25,000 per student!

Full and Complete Applications are due October 28th.

Back to School season is upon us! Here are a few community events to get some free school supplies & resources, meet your local officials and have a good time within your community!

📓On Saturday Philadelphia City Council President Kenyatta Johnson is hosting a Community Appreciation Day that includes a concert, free book bag & school supplies giveaways, food & a kids zone.

📓On Saturday, August 23, Bryant Baptist Church is hosting a back to school giveaway giving away backpacks, water ice and pretzels

📓 On Thursday, August 21, Pennsylvania Career Link is hosting their book bag drive giving away book bags and school supplies, free hair cuts for boys, free hair dos for all kids, free nail painting for girls, food, fun, etc

📓 On Saturday, August 23, Snipes, Under Armour & Kur will be hosting a back to school drive at West Philadelphia Container Village giving away free food, book bags, hair cuts & a complimentary nail bar.

All items at each event are while supplies last. Don’t miss out on these opportunities to gear up on the new school year!
