It was an early, fun, and productive morning of maintenance on the mountain bike trails at Elkin Park. 10 volunteers worked on 3 trails cutting back vegetation, removing downed trees, and replacing a board of the boardwalk. The trails are ready for your bike, so come enjoy the MTB system at the Elkin Park.

Thank you to all of the volunteers for helping keep our trails in great condition!

A trail maintenance volunteer did some work on the Spice Farm section of the MST this evening. If you’re interested in adopting a trail or section of trail as either a Trail Inspector or Trail Maintainer, send us an email at [email protected]. As we add more trails, we have a need for more volunteers. It’s a great way to give back to our community while spending time outdoors.

Saturday morning we will meet to clean up the mountain bike trails. Loppers and w**d eaters will be the biggest need. We will divide up and hit different trails (Possum Shot, Iron Falls, and Elkin Creek) prioritizing based on how many volunteers are working.

Start time is 7:30 AM in attempt to minimize working in the heat. We will meet in the parking area beside the Rec Center.

Into the Woods We Go… The Story of the Trails in Elkin, NC

We’re incredibly proud to share that "Into the Woods We Go" was recently selected for a short film festival, and last week, it was honored as the first film shown at the NC Great Trails State Conference.

The film tells the story of how Elkin transitioned from a town known for manufacturing into a community increasingly recognized for trails, outdoor recreation, and the incredible quality of life that comes with them.

This project was made possible through a partnership between Elkin Valley Trails Association (EVTA), the Town of Elkin, Explore Elkin , and NC Trail Days. We’re proud of what we were able to accomplish together and grateful to everyone who helped tell Elkin’s story.

A special thank you to J. Martin Productions for their outstanding work bringing this story to life. The filming, storytelling, and production quality are something we’re incredibly proud to share.

Now we’d love for you to watch "Into the Woods We Go" and experience the story for yourself.

If you enjoy it, please like, comment, and share so we can help more people discover Elkin's story and the role our trails and outdoor spaces have played in the community's transformation.

Great couple of days at the Great Trails State Conference! Megan Stainback represented EVTA alongside Adam McComb with Town of Elkin, and Logan Haynes with Explore Elkin, collaborating, learning and sharing ideas with trail and recreation leaders from across NC.

Thank you, Great Trails NC, for bringing us all together and continuing to strengthen North Carolina’s trail community!

On Friday August 7th, Elkin Valley Trails Association and boy scouts from Cool Springs troop 658 took on the challenging job of re-decking the dock on the Healing Trail at Hugh Chatham hospital. Mason O'Steen is coordinating the work for his eagle scout project. We anticipate a few more workdays to complete the job.

A big thanks to boy scouts; Gabriel Wilson, Tanner Roberts, Blake Anderson and Mason O'Steen. Also, working hard was Brandon & Julie O'Steen and EVTA's Mike Reves, Randy Mays, Bill Griffin, Alton Mc Leus, Dena Higdon, Johnny Adams and Bob Hillyer.

Giving Back in a Big Way!

Grassy Creek Vineyard and Winery celebrated its 20th anniversary by hosting a Giving Back BBQ fundraiser benefiting Elkin Valley Trails Association (EVTA) and what a great event it was in spite of the heat!

Guests enjoyed free BBQ sandwiches and fixings from Terry’s Cafe and Catering, crafts by local vendors, The Chill Mobile serving Italian Ice, music by three fantastic bands, Luke Mears and Robert Holthouser, Kyle Caudle and Timberline, Salem Brothers, and a special 20% discount on all wine purchases.

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who donated so generously to help support our efforts in building and maintaining local trails.

A huge THANK YOU to Grassy Creek Vineyard and Winery for choosing EVTA as part of their 20th anniversary Giving Back celebration.
🥂Here’s to 20 years of Grassy Creek and Winery and many more years of giving back to our community!

Thank you so much, Piedmont Legacy Trails, for this wonderful post. EVTA values and appreciates our partnership.
