EVTA will host its 3rd Saturday work day next week on the 3/4-mile section of trail between Isaac’s Trailhead on Carter Mill Road and the intersection with the Skull Camp Spur. Join us for a guided hike on “Hike Friday” - our outdoorsy alternative to Black Friday. Bill Griffin, EVTA’s local naturalist, will be leading a morning hike of the E&A Rail Trail. The hike will begin on November 27 at the trail kiosk of the Elkin Recreation Center. Hike starts at 10 AM and lasts approximately 2 hours with many stops to discuss the natural environment along Elkin Creek.

Over the past few years, "forest creep" has obscured the view of the mural on the dam at Klondike Lake near Grassy Creek Vineyard. Our workday opened up the view. We also trimmed the "forest Bathing loop" and added trail signs along the way.

Such a beautiful day and a great turnout for the Pumpkin Festival! We had wonderful volunteers who stayed all day helping set up our booth, selling merchandise, sharing information about our trails, enjoying the camaraderie, and helping us take down and pack up our tent and merchandise after a very successful day. Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth today and those who purchased merchandise. We love sharing information about our trails.

Volunteers going the extra mile today were Suzanne Puckett, John O’Connell, Bob Hillyer, Joe and Pam Mickey, Keith Sidden, Bob Puckett, Terry Jenkins, Linda MacDonald, and Dee Neil. Special thanks to Keith Sidden for designing and Suzanne Puckett for ordering the new hike shirt. The new shirts were such a hit we are having to reorder before our Black Friday hike! Join Elkin Valley Trails for "Hike Friday" on Black Friday — November 27, 2026!

We're planning a handful of guided hikes throughout the region, and we'd love for you to join us outdoors this Thanksgiving season.

We've created a special "hike." shirt to commemorate Hike Friday! They'll be available this weekend at the Pumpkin Festival.

Hikes will be added to Meetup as they are finalized, and we'll announce them here on Facebook as well.

Come see us at the EVTA booth at the Pumpkin Festival, grab your Hike Friday shirt, and keep an eye out for the hikes as they're posted.

Six volunteers spent a combined 18 hours clearing 2 miles of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail between John P Frank Parkway and Traphill Ridge Road this morning. The morning was spent clearing back vegetation and ensuring an open corridor for the hikers and horses that utilize this section of trail. Thank you to Chris White, Zack Albert, Dena Higdon, Mike Reves, Joe Mickey, and Keith Sidden for the trail work today.

Join us for our MST Birthday Hike on Saturday, September 12th as we celebrate the 49th birthday of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Meet at Isaac’s Trailhead at 8:30 am.

With cooler temperatures in the 70’s this Saturday, it’s the perfect time to get outside and enjoy nature!

Dr. Bill Griffin will lead us on a one mile out and one mile back hike along the beautiful Isaac’s Trail, taking time to explore wildflowers, butterflies, and birds. Register to attend on Meetup below. Hope to see you there!
