Final encampment thoughts or at least for , as the cadets sleep in their own beds tonight, hard earned exhaustion and experience wearing on their bodies and minds tonight, my thoughts turn to the rallying point of a flight: the guidon.

The guidon is the physical symbol of a unit, an extension of their commander, and a guide and rallying point for the flight. I think about the many cadets that have passed through Civil Air Patrol - Wisconsin Wing Encampment's doors, and the guidons that wave above cadets past, present, and wait for those in the future.

Under the guidon, and under their flight staff's watchful eyes, who once marched behind a guidon instead of next to it, the cadets go from novices to start becoming experts. In few years, hopefully our cadets who graduated from today, will march at the head of a flight, with a guidon bearer at their sign, passing on what they have learned to the next generation of tomorrow's leaders.

However, tonight they completed their basic encampment, earned their encampment ribbons, and their rest.

One can't leave encampment without being changed. This week, our cadets faced highs and lows as a flight, built connections to last a long time, and memories they would be hard pressed to forget. Now, it is time for them to blast off from Volk Field ANGB with graduation certificates in hand, ready to take their next step into a larger world.

Here we go!

On the move!

In the groove!

In the groove!

Here we go!

All the way!

Every day!

Huuuh..., ha ha!

Huuuh..., ha ha!

Marching is a way of life at . One of the ways that cadets pass the time while marching is by singing marching cadences. Popular hits often include: Rock Steady, the Air Force Cadence, The Coke Jodie, among many others. The flight Commander or Sergeant will call out one line, then the cadets in the flight have to respond with the next line as illustrated above.

Another part of military life that the cadets experience is physical training at the crack of dawn. At encampment, training goes from sun-up to sundown. There's nothing like the sound of "Hup, two, three, four" followed by a loud "ONE!" to get the blood flowing first thing in the morning.
