This study is titled The Truth That Will Make You. FREE!
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
The subject of this message is the point of much controversy among those "professing Christ" in this day and time. What does it mean to "believe in him?" The scriptures says "...that whosoever believeth in Him shoul not perish, but have everlasting life." Does this mean that every who"believes in" the "existence"of Jesus Christ is saved and going to HEAVEN? Or, does speak of only those who believe that Jesus "is the Son of God?"Romans 10:9 goes a little further: if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him crom the dead, thou shalt be saved." Obviously this scripture speaks a simple truth, but it needsto be understood that it does not stand alone: it is aconclusion reached out of all the gospels truthPaul had given in preceding nine chapters of Romans. It becomes obvious that it is not only important"that" you believe, but more importantly,"what" you believe. Jesus said "...and ye shall know the truth shall make you free."
The Gospel of John carries a theme from beginning to end about the " believer." In John's gospel, the words "believe," " believed," and "believeth" are used ninety six times.in the other three gospels combined they are used only thirty seven times.
It is obvious that the apostle attached great importance to the subject of "believing," John wrote his "gospel" in his oldage; many years after all the others apostles of our Lord had died the marty's death. Many false teachers had crept into the church, and under their teaching the church was rushing towards apostasy. All of John's writings and letters were written to the intent of stemming the tide of the apostasy that eventually brought the church and the entire world into the "dark ages" which lasted for over twelve hundred years. In the book of John there seems to be a "search" for a " true believer". We will pick up there Wednesday. I will be posted this study Monday Wednesday and Friday. We will start John 2:23-25.God bless have a great day in the Lord.
