THE OLD DAYS AROUND SIMONTON LAKE...
Our February newsletter photo from 1978 prompted some discussion about the building in the background, which I will paste here, maybe you can add to the discussion...
It belonged to Howard Jordan and was called Howard’s. My father actually worked there. Then Harvey Westrate bought it, he first owned the chicken coop across the street that became his son in law’s hardware store, and is now a low budget cigarette store. Any idea what year this picture was taken. (1978)..Linda Anderson
Freida Baskerville told Deb Weaver that Nadine worked at that bar when it was a restaurant. Nadine is 78 and that was in her teens. :) Freida remembered a drive in movie theater out here too. ..Theresa Maier
There seems to be some confusion in the second conversation with Pete's. Johnny Prugh owned Pete's and the Kilgrens bought it in 1970. The first story about it being another bar is correct I believe. But better read it again more carefully. ..Dave Foutz
This story goes on and on. My mom says my dad (John Baskerville) and Johnny Prugh owned Howards for a couple of years in the early to mid 1950's. She has a couple of neighbors who seem to remember better than she does if you want more info. Wow, hard to remember--Linda, do you remember us riding our bikes to the drug store for candy?? Right next to the place if I remember right. ..Deb Weaver
