We met for coffee... but this was no ordinary meeting...
WE Vote 2020 began in early 2019 when a few interested people met at a coffee shop to discuss what we could do to celebrate the 2020 Centennial of the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote in the United States. The interest grew and a committee of volunteers representing organizations across Elkhart County gathered. A planning committee started meeting regularly and called the movement: "WE Vote 2020", with the mission to inspire and motivate community organizations in Elkhart County to celebrate the Centennial of the 19th Amendment. We promote the observance through collaboration, education, celebration and conversation. We are nearing the launch of our website which will promote organizations's events highlighting and celebrating women's right to vote on this, the Centennial Celebration year of the 19th Amendment.
This WE Vote 2020 page is intended to help inform the community about events that are coming up, along with information on how to get involved (like submitting your own events for inclusion in the celebration). We've been operating as a Facebook 'group', but are at the point of spreading the word more publicly around the county. Hope you'll consider liking our page and getting involved by participating in shared events or by creating your OWN event, we’ll help you share it! - Eric Garton, co-chair, WE Vote 2020
