Save the Date: "Highland Lutheran Church, one of Clayton County's pioneer churches, will celebrate its 125th Anniversary on Sunday September 7, 2025. The church, located at 13724 225th St., Elkader was established in 1900. The celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a joyous worship service followed by a free-will offering noon meal. The afternoon will include special music, historical/genealogical information and other activities. Save September 7 and plan to attend this special event. For more information contact Paul Olson of Elkader, congregation president."

The Clayton County Genealogical Society will meet Tuesday, October 22 at 1:00 pm at Ceres Church, Garnavillo, to tour the church and cemetery. We will the visit the Kann Cemetery and the site of the Kann Church.

The Pioneer Rock church at Ceres was formerly known as St. Peter's German United Evangelical Lutheran church. Its history dates as far back as 1858, when the congregation was organized. Before 1858, the people of Ceres, which was formerly known as Independence, went to church at Garnavillo, where the Rev. Paul Stockfeld was pastor. Finally they decided to build a church at Independence, organize and have the Rev. Stockfeld, who was also a teacher and doctor, as their pastor.

The Clayton County Genealogical Society will be meeting at the Stockyard Restaurant in Osterdock on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. The restaurant will be open for ordering off the menu at 11:30 am. The program will start at 1 PM.

The Program will present highlights of Osterdock with pictures, history, and information of the railroad station, floods, businesses and people throughout the years.

If you would like to share pictures of the homes, businesses, people and farms of the area, please bring them to share. We will have a scanner available to scan any pictures and return them to you.
