We’re so grateful to Portico Benefit Services for choosing Thumbs Up as a beneficiary and for their generous $10,000+ donation!

Being selected by Portico means the world to us. Their support helps fuel the work we started in 2014—after Katie lost her grandfather Bob Schmit to su***de. Their support allows us to keep the conversation about mental health going through our 13 programs, and everything in between.

From supporting people in crisis to walking alongside families who’ve lost someone to su***de, every gift helps us and bring hope to our community.

Three pictures; same two people.

These photos represent so much more than a memory, it reflects our mission of ONE person at a time.

This is Aidyn. He attended a Thumbs Up teen outreach event in 2021, then he started coming to our after-school program that same year. He showed up every single Wednesday, and one day, we learned something more about him. You see, Aidyn was nominated for a bereavement gift; he lost his father to su***de. That wasn’t something Aidyn shared with us yet.

We got to give him that bereavement gift at program one day and the tears welled up in his eyes and he grabbed his phone to show me a photo of his dad. We learned that his dad had PTSD from serving in the military and that he had died by su***de.

Aidyn attended our after-school program for a few years until he “outgrew” it…

He continues to show up every year for the race and it makes our hearts so happy.

We hope Aidyn always knows how important he is to us; the Thumbs Up volunteers, and the employees who work at Thumbs Up.

That is a full circle moment and it’s one of many stories we love sharing. Because ONE LIFE MATTERS.

One person, one conversation, one step at a time. 💙💛
