We are a group of individuals who are working with the City of Elk Point, the SDSU coalition and the Elk Point community to improve our Park with new playground and exercise equipment. The implementation of a 9 hole Disc course; new sand in the VB court, horse shoes, and swing area; and spray to remove burrs in the park. Our long term goals are to expand the disc golf course to 18 holes; replace p
layground equipment; and continue to maintain the park to be a safe and friendly place for all people in the Elk Point Community. We looked into many options and decided we would start off with a project that had already been approved by the City Council, the disc golf course. The course was an idea of the Elk Point Jefferson Student Council, led by Cody Reed and Alex McLaury. Using the research, proposal, site map and budget that was already prepared by the students, we have been busy seeking donations to make the course a reality. We have over 50+ sponsors from local businesses and persons in our community. Due to the overwhelming generosity of our sponsors, we have raised over 96% of our goal towards having an 18 hole disc golf course. Installation of the course should begin in mid August, once supplies begin to arrive. We have also done countless hours of research on new playground equipment. We are currently comparing prices, sizes, wants, and needs for our community park. We are looking into ADA approved equipment so that ALL children can partake in all the park has to offer. We have 4 pages of various grants and fundraising ideas to help support our cause.
