We’re excited to extend our heartfelt gratitude to William Blair for sponsoring today’s keynote speaker, Chief Economist Dana Peterson of The Conference Board. Your partnership helps make these impactful discussions possible!

Day two of NCTR's 102nd Conference continues with the highly anticipated CIO Panel, immediately following the keynote session. Attendees will hear industry leaders share their perspectives on current investment strategies and market trends.

The day's program offers attendees a series of breakout sessions that cover a range of investment topics, but one of the highlights is our session on "Artificial Intelligence: Help or Hindrance in the DE&I Space." This timely discussion will explore the ways AI can both support and challenge diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within organizations – sparking a meaningful dialogue on a critical issue.

To close out the day, attendees will gather to celebrate excellence in education at the National Teacher of the Year Award Dinner. This special event honors Missy Testerman from Rogersville, TN, and is one of our attendees' favorite sessions. It's a heartfelt and impactful evening as we come together to recognize the incredible educators who inspire, shape our communities, and nurture future generations.

Thank you again to all of our event sponsors for your partnership and for helping us deliver these meaningful moments and impactful discussions that truly embody our theme of Empowerment Through Education!

We're excited to welcome Ranchland Capital Partners as a new NCTR member! Co-founded by Todd Graham and Sean Puckett, Ranchland Capital Partners specializes in acquiring underperforming ranch properties across the western U.S. and transforming them through active management that boosts both ecological and financial performance.

Ranchland’s innovative land stewardship practices, like high-density grazing, mimic natural livestock movements to improve soil health, increase forage production, and raise ranch productivity. Their proprietary Bullseye Management Platform helps identify areas for improvement, ensuring a holistic approach to ranch operations and sustainability.

They’ve been working with family ranches for over 25 years, managing or advising on more than 3.83 million acres. Their strategy maximizes returns for both land and investors, integrating property and investment management for long-term success.

We’re delighted to have them join us at our upcoming 102nd Conference in Atlanta, October 5-9. Be sure to connect with Ed Bardowski, CSCP to learn about their game-changing approach to Ranchland investment.

Latinas and Latinos have always held significant roles throughout our country’s history, dating all the way back to the American Revolution. Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 through October 15, is important because it provides an opportunity to celebrate the integral part the Hispanic/Latino community has had in growing and strengthening our democracy.

Representation matters. Latinos and Latinas continue to shape our nation as business owners, activists, artists, public servants, and more. From serving in the U.S. military to being champions in the fight for civil rights, Latinas and Latinos remain strong leaders and changemakers.

Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the unique voices and experiences of Hispanic/Latino Americans and recognize their history, journeys, and achievements. Through these celebrations, we can all help to inspire younger generations and bring communities together.

Paying tribute to the generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

"NCTR's conferences provide the resources and information to help [trustees] make informed decisions... there are opportunities to network and exchange information with the other trustees and system administrators, another bonus is to be able to engage directly with corporate leaders within the investment community. NCTR has provided that space for me to be informed and engaged, as a valued trustee. It's definitely an organization of choice for trustees and corporate sponsors, and also an organization that mirrors all of the systems." – Karen Yamamoto, Board Vice Chair, CalSTRS & President Elect, NCTR

NCTR's 102nd Conference is dedicated to Empowerment Through Education – and what better way to embody this theme and the grassroots of our organization than by showcasing an educator who empowers future generations daily.

Meet Missy Testerman, the 2024 National Teacher of the Year and our Guest of Honor at this year's James D. Mosman National Teacher of the Year Dinner.

Missy Testerman is not just a kindergarten through eighth grade English as a second language (ESL) teacher in Rogersville, Tennessee; she is a beacon of hope and a champion for her students, their families, and the community. Serving as the district ESL specialist and ESL program director, Missy has dedicated her career to ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to thrive in her rural Appalachian community.

Missy's teaching philosophy fosters understanding and unity in a community that, while tight-knit, often grapples with the challenges of diversity. “Most importantly, my students were exposed to stories of Americans who did not look like them, allowing them to understand those cultures and their own by seeing that people are inherently the same, no matter the culture. We all have struggles and triumphs, and we all belong.”

This commitment to fostering inclusivity is just one aspect of Missy's impactful career. Her journey as an educator is also marked by her innovative teaching methods and her relentless advocacy for better learning conditions. Her work has not only transformed the lives of her students but also made a lasting impact on the broader educational community through partnerships with universities and mentoring future educators.

We invite you to join us at our 102nd Conference from October 5-9, in Atlanta, GA, to be inspired by Missy Testerman’s story and the powerful message she embodies. Don’t miss the chance to celebrate her incredible contributions to education at the annual James D. Mosman National Teacher of the Year Dinner on Monday, October 7. Let’s come together to honor those who empower the future through education.
