Elk Creek Volunteer Fire Department

Elk Creek Volunteer Fire Department A Message from the Chief-
Thank you for visiting our page. Our number one goal is to make sure our community is a safe place to work, live and play.

We respond to fire calls, vehicle accidents and to many different types of medical calls, 24 hour a day 7 days a week. What makes me most proud to be the Fire Chief here in Elk Creek is because of our member’s. Their selfless dedication to our community is second to none. Ask anyone one of them, why they are part of the Elk Creek Volunteer Fire Department (ECVFD) and they will tell you: “It is imp

ortant be there for our community members in what could be their greatest time of need and there is no better way to help than to do my part during those times.”

If you would like to be part of our team, (your ECVFD) contact anyone of our members and they will get you set up. Bob Johnson
ECVFD Chief

The New York Steak Dinner was an incredible success! We served more than 270 meals this year. This was no small feat. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing team of 43 people, including 32 dedicated volunteers, consisting of the Elk Creek High School FFA, the Valley View Calfire crew, and our very own community members, who all worked alongside our firefighters to make this event possible.

We hope everyone enjoyed their meal as much as we enjoyed preparing and serving it. The cake auction was also a tremendous hit. We had over 65 delicious treats of all kinds donated. This brought in over 3K this year. This was the biggest one I’ve seen yet! We truly can’t express enough gratitude to everyone who contributed to make the auction a huge success!

A special thank you: To Rick Payne for donating a beautiful cutting board, engraved with an Elk that was our door prize, to show our appreciation for supporting us by buying a ticket to our event. To Josh Gregory, who made and donated over 20 gallons of homemade chili. To the Elk Horn and staff for ordering and helping prep some of the food. To Leo Laux, in memory of his Great Grand Father Charles (Skip) Thompson, for generously donating a .45 ACP Springfield Handgun. In addition: the Elk Creek Fire Fighters, added to the excitement by selecting a Christensen Arms Ridgeline Stainless Steel Rifle, valued at over $1800.00 to be raffled off that night. Congratulations to all the winners!

Thank you all for your continued support! We can’t wait to see everyone again next year!

Elk Creek Volunteer Fire Department (ECVFD) News

Due to the Elk Creek Calfire station being closed during the winter months the Elk Creek Fire Protection District has decided to hire a seasonal firefighter. This individual will carry the same qualifications as a Calfire firefighter. They will respond to all medical and fire calls from 8:00 AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. In addition, they will be qualified to operate all fire apparatuses.

This position will fill a critical gap in coverage. Most of our volunteers work Monday through Friday between the times listed above and are out of the ECVFD jurisdiction. Volunteer firefighter response times can be greater than 40 minutes just to get to the station. Another challenge has been the closure of Glenn Medical Center; our residents here have been put at a higher risk due to long response times as well as longer travel time to the nearest hospital.

The hiring of this seasonal position is possible, due to the selfless dedication of our volunteers performing station coverage, during severe winter weather and extreme fire conditions. This coverage provides extra funding to the Elk Creek Fire Protection District.

The steak feed will be Feb 7th this year and we will be serving NY Steaks made to order. We will have our annual cake auction (don’t miss out on these delicious homemade treats!!) Plus, a couple of raffle drawings adding to the excitement of the night. We also have a beautiful hand-made cutting board, donated to us, by Rick Payne to be used as a door prize.

Our annual steak feed takes hundreds of volunteer hours. THANK YOU to all who donate their time and effort to make the steak feed an event to remember!

It is the time of year again to recognize our Firefighter of the year. This year’s award goes to…Paul Poston. He has truly led the way and completed many projects above and beyond, as well as keeping our fleet of fire trucks in top working order. Thank you Paul you deserve it!!
