In honor of Zonta Rose Day, which coincides with International Women's Day, the Zonta Club recognized Elaine Geer for her leadership, organization, determination, and heart of compassion. She was presented Yellow Roses, which are the Zonta symbol of friendship, and invite us to reflect upon and recognize the remarkable women and girls whose resilience and leadership bring about meaningful change. Geer was also given a $100 donation to Room In The Inn Shelter program in which she is the board chair person.

Geer not only has served the community as a registered nurse for over 30 years and still working 2 days a week for Baptist Health, but contributes to community initiatives, been faithful and active in her church, taken people under her wing to provide health and safety care, and since 2022 has served as the president of the local Room In The Inn Board and directed the winter shelter program for those who are homeless.

Room in the Inn 2025–2026 Season is Officially Closed.

For 90 days, because of this incredible community, our doors remained open 24/7 for our neighbors experiencing homelessness. Meals were served. Beds were filled. Volunteers showed up. Hope was restored.

Room in the Inn is a seasonal homeless shelter that operates completely through volunteers and community support — and once again, you made it possible. Whether you stayed overnight, cooked a meal, donated supplies, prayed, or offered encouragement… your time mattered.

While the overnight shelter season has ended, our mission continues.

📅 Beginning March 10th
🕘 Tuesdays & Wednesdays | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

We will provide day resources only, including:
• Showers
• Laundry
• Lunch
• Connection to community resources

Our 24/7 overnight shelter services will resume on December 1, 2026.

Please continue to pray that every guest we served finds safe and stable housing. This work is not easy — but it is necessary. And it is done with love.

Thank you for standing with us.

As we enter the final week of Winter Shelter, we are working closely with our guests to help them transition into their next steps. Some are traveling by bus to reconnect with family, while others are securing local housing and new opportunities.

One immediate need is luggage. Many of our guests are preparing to move on but do not have proper bags to carry their belongings. If you have gently used, functional duffel bags or suitcases you would be willing to donate, it would be a tremendous blessing and practical help during this important transition.

Thank you for continuing to support our neighbors as they take these next steps forward.

These items can be dropped off at the shelter 1113 Woodland Drive until Saturday evening.

UPDATE: Several of you responded quickly and dropped off toilet paper and some laundry soap. Thanks for your faithful support!

Many people ask how they can support us. As we go into the final days of our 24 hour shelter, we are running out of toilet paper (we have a 3 day supply) and laundry soap.

In March we will start day shelter and will still be providing meals, showers and laundry.

There is always work being done behind the scenes by our dedicated volunteers. This week we tackled defrosting the freezer!

And of course with up to 45 people eating 3 meals a day, there are always dishes to do.

Super Bowl Weekend Reflections by Lead Volunteer JT.

We had our annual Super Bowl party this week—complete with all the fixings. While there wasn’t much interest in the game itself, there was plenty of excitement around the food and fellowship. Our volunteer team once again showed up with incredible hearts, making the night special with decorations, football-themed cakes, and thoughtful touches that reminded our guests they matter.

As we begin counting down the final days of this RITI season, I’m encouraged to see many guests already making plans for what comes next—employment opportunities, housing goals, and fresh starts. This year, even when we couldn’t provide overnight shelter, we were still able to offer warm meals, a safe space, and a moment of dignity—and that matters.

Volunteering here is eye-opening. You see the full spectrum of humanity. Some individuals struggle with relationships, accountability, and personal responsibility—often becoming their own biggest obstacle. Others have strong social skills and good intentions but battle vices or setbacks that pull them back into homelessness after periods of stability. We even see familiar faces return, reminding us how fragile progress can be.

What becomes clear is this: many people were never taught the life skills most of us take for granted. Others carry wounds or struggles they haven’t yet found the strength or support to overcome.

Serving at Room in the Inn has a way of grounding you. It makes you thankful—for your upbringing, your faith, and the people who helped shape you. It also reminds you how much grace, patience, and compassion the world still needs.

Please continue to keep our guests—and all those experiencing homelessness—in your prayers. Pray for healing, guidance, accountability, and hope. And pray for us, that we continue to serve with love, humility, and open hearts.
