Super Bowl Weekend Reflections by Lead Volunteer JT.
We had our annual Super Bowl party this week—complete with all the fixings. While there wasn’t much interest in the game itself, there was plenty of excitement around the food and fellowship. Our volunteer team once again showed up with incredible hearts, making the night special with decorations, football-themed cakes, and thoughtful touches that reminded our guests they matter.
As we begin counting down the final days of this RITI season, I’m encouraged to see many guests already making plans for what comes next—employment opportunities, housing goals, and fresh starts. This year, even when we couldn’t provide overnight shelter, we were still able to offer warm meals, a safe space, and a moment of dignity—and that matters.
Volunteering here is eye-opening. You see the full spectrum of humanity. Some individuals struggle with relationships, accountability, and personal responsibility—often becoming their own biggest obstacle. Others have strong social skills and good intentions but battle vices or setbacks that pull them back into homelessness after periods of stability. We even see familiar faces return, reminding us how fragile progress can be.
What becomes clear is this: many people were never taught the life skills most of us take for granted. Others carry wounds or struggles they haven’t yet found the strength or support to overcome.
Serving at Room in the Inn has a way of grounding you. It makes you thankful—for your upbringing, your faith, and the people who helped shape you. It also reminds you how much grace, patience, and compassion the world still needs.
Please continue to keep our guests—and all those experiencing homelessness—in your prayers. Pray for healing, guidance, accountability, and hope. And pray for us, that we continue to serve with love, humility, and open hearts.
