Seniors Helping Seniors

Seniors Helping Seniors Seniors Helping Seniors is a student directed learning community (SDLC) at Elizabethtown College.

SDLCs were established at Elizabethtown College in 1992 in accordance with the college’s commitment to “Educate for Service.” Admittance into the SDLC program is awarded to third and fourth year students who are committed to exemplifying the college motto through specific service projects in the local and global community. Seniors Helping Seniors, formerly known as Juniors Helping Seniors, consists of four senior occupational therapy students: Esther Cargill, Sage Garvey, Madalene Rutherford, & Kelly Zielinski. In partnership with the Elizabethtown Area Senior Center, we seek to use our knowledge of and compassion for the elderly population to build relationships with local seniors, and implement meaningful group activities that enrich their daily lives. To achieve our goal, we plan and implement weekly activity groups at the center, for a total of fifteen service hours per academic semester.
