Thank you to Uplift for your support ❤️

Last night we were able to present a check to the Isaiah 117 House Knox County Indiana, and listen to area leader, Jacqueline Cunningham,and support coordinator, Megan Wedding, speak about the organization and all that they’ve done and continue to do since its establishment four years ago.

Here are some things we learned:
1️⃣ 👉 The primary goal of the organization and house is to reduce trauma and be a place of calm and comfort for children in between removal and placement into homes while in DCS care.

2️⃣ 👉 They serve newborns through eighteen year olds, and have been setting more and more teens being placed into care. This is especially important to remember when it comes to point 3, as caring for teens and items for teens can have a higher cost than younger children.

3️⃣ 👉 While at the Isaiah House, each child receives food, clothes, toys, hygiene items, and more—necessities and items of comfort that they may have not had a chance to take with them at the time they were removed for their situation before being placed into DCS custody. When they leave, each child has received approximately $300 worth of items.

4️⃣ 👉 There are only 7 Isaiah Houses in the state of Indiana, with ours being the second to open in the state. There are only 43 Isaiah 117 Houses currently open in the US (with 6 more currently under construction, and an additional 8 in the “raising awareness” stage)—but they’re only in 1/4 of US states!

5️⃣ 👉 Every year, each Isaiah 117 House is required to fundraise $157,000, and is almost entirely volunteer run. The Knox County Isaiah 117 House’s primary fundraisers are their annual lemonade stands and golf outings. Donations and local volunteers help make running their facilities and stalking their supply rooms possible.

A story from an open home ❤️

We had a sibling group visit that shared how much they love the Isaiah 117 House.

Our volunteer asked, “What do you like about the house?”

“I like that I could have as many chicken nuggets as I want.”
“I like that your refrigerator has so much food in it.”
“I like that every time I ask for a snack or a drink or something else you say yes.”
“I like that I got my own bed.”
“I like that it’s a house. It’s been a long time since we were in a house.”

What a powerful reminder of why we exist… to provide physical and emotional support for children entering foster care. ❤️

WHY WEDNESDAY. 🍼💛

At first glance, it’s just an empty bottle.

But to us, it represents a moment where everything can change.

A baby arrives scared and unsure, and someone reaches for this bottle. Someone fills it. Someone holds them close. Someone whispers, “You’re safe. You’re loved. You’re not alone.”

The bottle may start empty—but it doesn’t have to stay that way.

Because when a community comes together, we can fill more than bottles.

We can fill empty moments with comfort, fear with hope, and the beginning of a hard story with the promise that this child is cared for.

That’s our why. 💛
