our mission is to help at-risk horses that have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Many of the horses we rescue have been sent through the livestock auctions. We give them a home where they are loved and cared for until we can find them suitable forever homes. Those who wish to adopt these horses are carefully screened prior to placement. We work tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of th

e animals we rescue. We were founded in 2015 for the purpose of helping as many horses as possible through tax-deductible donations and with the help of our volunteers. Jax has officially hit the foster-home jackpot! 💗

Jax has found the perfect long term foster home with our friend and adopter, Krista Daughenbaugh. Krista has an older gelding she adopted from us named Larry and a younger, playful gelding named Rumi.

Krista needed another horse so when she takes Larry or Rumi out on a trail ride, the other one isn’t left home alone. We knew Jax would be the perfect fit as a gentle companion for Larry and a playmate for Rumi.

The three of them are getting along great and Jax is getting all the love and attention he deserves!

We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Jax and his friends!💗

We want to say a HUGE thank you to our friends, Bri and Kennen with The Jasper Project, and to Bri’s mom, Marianne Graf.

The Jasper Project is an essential nonprofit that helps horse owners with end-of-life expenses when the hardest decision needs to be made. They have helped us with the financial expenses for many of our beloved horses.

When Bri heard that, without Riff’s surgery on his crooked leg, we might be facing one of those most difficult goodbyes, she immediately wanted to help us avoid that. She hoped that by contributing to some of the surgery expenses, she could help give Riff the chance at a long, happy life this young foal deserves.

Yesterday Bri and Kennen came out to meet Riff and his mom, Cadence, and brought us a $4,100 check towards Riff’s life-changing surgery. To say we are blown away by their kindness and generosity is an understatement.

We are truly blessed to have so many amazing people standing alongside us to offer this sweet little guy his best chance at a long, happy life. Thank you to Bri, Kennen, Marianne, and The Jasper Project, for making a difference!

Riff needs us now. ❤️

Just a couple of weeks ago, Riff was a scared little c**t standing at a livestock auction. He and his sweet mom, Cadence, came to us mostly unhandled and unsure of people. In such a short time, they have both made incredible progress and have quickly become two of our favorite faces around the barn.

But Riff has a serious problem with his front leg.

A fracture to his first phalanx (P1) damaged his growth plate, and without the veterinary care he needed before coming to us, his leg has healed incorrectly and become crooked. Riff is growing quickly, and we need to determine if surgery can correct his leg and give him the best chance at a normal, healthy life.

Our veterinarian, Dr. Whitton, has been working closely with orthopedic surgeons at CSU to determine the best option for him. We don’t want to put Riff through surgery unless we believe he has a good chance for a successful outcome.

His next step is a CT scan at CSU. The detailed images will allow the surgeons to see exactly what is happening inside his leg, create a 3D model, and carefully plan the surgery. They can even evaluate different surgical approaches before deciding exactly how to proceed.

Getting Riff to CSU will be an adventure in itself. His mom, Cadence, is only beginning to learn how to lead with a halter and is also dealing with laminitis. Thankfully, the veterinary team will be able to evaluate and treat her feet while they are there.

And then there is the biggest hurdle: the cost.

Riff’s surgery is currently estimated at approximately $8,000.

That is a huge amount for our little rescue, but we can’t look at Riff and not try.

He has already come so far. He is learning to trust, learning that people can be kind, and discovering what it feels like to be safe. We want to give him the opportunity to grow up and have the happy, healthy life he deserves.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be holding several fundraisers and asking for donations to help cover Riff’s medical expenses. We’re also looking for items to donate for upcoming online and in-person silent auctions.

If you can help, every dollar truly matters. Whether it’s $10, $20, $50, or more, every contribution brings us one step closer to getting Riff the care he needs.

Riff desperately needs your help. He is the adorable little c**t we just saved from the livestock auction a couple weeks ago.

When Riff arrived, he was terrified and very cautious of people. His sweet and gentle mom was mostly unhandled and kept her distance at first. They have both made such incredible progress in a short time and are quickly becoming barn favorites.

Unfortunately, Riff has a crooked leg, caused by a fracture of the first phalanx (P1), which has also affected his growth plate due to a lack of proper veterinary care prior to his arrival at our rescue. To give him the best chance for a happy and healthy future, Riff needs surgery as soon as possible.

Our veterinarian, Dr. Whitton, conducted Riff’s initial examination and X-rays and she has been consulting with orthopedic surgeons at CSU, exploring the best path forward for Riff. We want to do whatever is in his best interest, so we will only put him through surgery if we believe he has a strong chance for a full recovery.

As a next step, the surgeons have scheduled a CT scan to get a clearer view of his leg. The scan will allow them to create a 3D model and plan the procedure carefully, in addition to experimenting with different possible procedures before performing the surgery.

Such cute little supervisors! 🥰🐴

Our sweet Cadence has some pretty bad allergies, so we’ve removed her pine shavings and are trying different hay to see what works best for her.

Since she may be bred back, we have to be extra careful with what we use to help her. 💗

We are heartbroken to share we said goodbye to our sweet Gracie girl today. 💔

Grace was a sassy Morgan mare with so much personality. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with insulin resistance, which meant she couldn’t enjoy grazing like the other horses. But she found her own little group of IR friends and was happiest hanging out with them.

Over the past year, Grace had a few mild colic episodes, which we treated for suspected ulcers but we started noticing that our usually sassy girl was becoming a little quieter. A couple of days ago, she colicked, and our vets worked with her to try to get her comfortable. When she continued to show signs of colic, they recommended we take her to Littleton Equine Medical Center for IV fluids, more testing, and overnight observation.

This morning, additional testing, including her lactate levels and other bloodwork, showed that she was heading in a bad direction. She also began refluxing, which was another sign that something was seriously wrong. Further testing showed an obstruction in her small intestine, suspected to be a lipoma strangulating the small intestine.

Grace was becoming increasingly uncomfortable, and given her age and history, the vet and we agreed that surgery wasn’t in her best interest. So we made the heartbreaking decision to let her go.

Grace was truly loved during her time with us, and she will be deeply missed. We’re grateful for every volunteer who gave her love, care, and attention over the years.
