Through a partnership of the Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth and Prevention Links, the Elizabethport Community Center provides high quality programs, services, and facilities which act as a catalyst for positive youth development and a stronger community. The Center empowers people of all ages to be actively involved in the community through involvement in educational, recreational, self-sufficiency opportunities and professional developmental.

Last week, the Elizabethport Community Center youth program participants went to the park for an important discussion with our youth during the NJ4S Union Hub weekly youth program and Mental Health Awareness Month Celebration. Not only do mental health days provide an opportunity to recharge, but they also create positive memories and connections for our youth. Last week, our Senior Nutrition Program participants picked up their weekly fresh produce and participated in a class on Sleep Hygiene, which refers to the daily habits, behaviors, and environmental factors that support consistent, high-quality sleep. By regulating your circadian rhythm through a strict routine and optimizing your bedroom, you can fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer, and wake up feeling refreshed. Special thanks to Project Meducate for providing the class for our program participants and sharing important information to keep our community active and healthy.

The One Community One Family Coalition is proud to support drug-free community initiatives that strengthen relationships and create positive experiences for our youth. “Bowling with a Cop” on May 19th was an amazing opportunity for Prevention Links program participants. We came together with members of the Elizabeth Police Department and with program participants from Elizabethport Community Center for an afternoon of fun, teamwork, and connection. Events like these highlight the importance of building trust, encouraging mentorship, and fostering strong community partnerships, one strike at a time. 🎳

This week, Elizabethport Community Center had the opportunity to host a visit from Maritza I. Raimundi-Petroski, Director of Operations at Prevention Links, as part of her agency-wide listening tour. From day one, Maritza has prioritized a thoughtful and organized approach to gathering input, concerns, and perspectives from staff, stakeholders, and community members. This intentional approach reflects a leadership philosophy grounded in understanding before acting—taking the necessary time to learn about the organization's culture, its strengths, and its yet-to-be-explored potential before implementing changes.
