Can you believe it’s already been a week since Pride Month started?

Thank you to everyone who came out to Craft with Pride last night! Huge shoutout to The SweetEasy for helping with setup, spreading the word, and wanting to partner for ArtWalk in the first place. We couldn’t have done this without you! ❤️❤️

Let us know in the comments if you’d like to see Craft with Pride return for July’s ArtWalk and if so, what craft should we offer next? We have plenty of beads left so a second round of bracelet making can definitely be arranged!

I had so much fun meeting everyone and talking with y’all and hope to see you again soon!

It’s Pride Month! 🎉🏳️‍🌈🤩🤩🏳️‍🌈🎉 I hope you are having a great day so far! Let’s remember to hold space for those who fought and/or lost their lives before, during, and after Stonewall. For those who continue to fight and risk their lives just to exist and for those who are unable to come out due to the current climate. Pride Month is for everyone—the joyful, the grieving, and the questioning—so please keep that in mind.

With that being said, I hope you’re able to celebrate and feel validated this Pride Month. Whether that’s by hanging out with friends, watching q***r shows, jamming out to q***r artists (I’ve got recommendations, don’t you worry), or even just seeing affirming quotes and content on social media. Even if it’s just you in your room reminding yourself that you matter and you deserve to live. I hope you take the time to reflect on who you are and what you want for your life. Whether you’re out, in the closet, questioning, or “it’s complicated”, I hope you experience q***r joy. You deserve it ❤️❤️

Only 6 days until Pride Month! 🤩🤩

Our first official event is on June 7th but I want to encourage everyone to start events of their own. Even if it’s just you and your friends getting together to watch/rewatch Heartstopper or have a sleepover and paint each other’s nails. Let this be the spark that brings us together. This year’s been hard for the q***r community so let’s find ways to bring some q***r joy back into our lives this Pride Month ❤️❤️

Are you looking for an opportunity to support a local LGBTQIA+ event? Then consider buying/donating supplies or stopping by The SweetEasy during June’s First Friday Art Walk for Craft with Pride (see flyer attached below for more details). The focus is creating Pride-themed bracelets and bookmarks and while I have some supplies, I’d like to make sure I have enough for whoever wants to participate. My goal is to make this a recurring event so any unused materials will be used for future events, which would center around the same craft as well as others such as painting, origami, knitting, etc. Anything that people would enjoy.

Please spread the word about this event by sharing, tagging, and mentioning it in conversation. If you’d like to support by buying or donating supplies, please check out the Google Doc linked below. All the necessary details are on the doc but feel free to comment or message me if you have any questions.

Hi, I’m Maria (she/they)! For those who don’t know me, I’m a 25 year old biromantic nonbinary ace who didn’t know she was any of those things until she was 22 and beyond 😅 My q***rness has always been a part of me but it’s still new and exciting to discover. I have loved getting to learn more about myself and the q***r community as a whole and that’s kind of how this group started.

Once I realized I wasn’t straight, I started searching for q***r stories. One of my favorites is If I Can Give You That by Michael Gray Bulla. I won’t spoil it because I highly recommend it, but the book features a q***r community center called Plus. The sense of belonging, love, and pride the characters find there moved me to tears. Naturally, I reached out to the author on tumblr and asked if I could use the name Plus if I were to create a similar group of my own. He graciously said yes and was very supportive of this dream from the very beginning and I will be forever grateful for that ❤️❤️

Similar to its namesake, Plus NENC’s mission is to unite and support q***r people and allies of all ages in Northeast North Carolina through local events and opportunities. Our vision is to build a thriving q***r community and inspire other areas to do the same. It is not a nonprofit but there is the potential for it to become one at some point. Right now it’s just me doing what I can to plan and provide opportunities for us to gather and celebrate ourselves during Pride Month and beyond. Please reach out if you have thoughts or ideas on how to help our local q***r community. I am open to any and all suggestions (except hateful ones obviously 😅). I’d love to have a physical location at some point but that’s on hold unless anyone knows a place.

I can’t wait to start sharing news about upcoming events so please spread the word about this page. I don’t expect a huge turnout but I want everyone who might be interested to know about these events. I plan on creating an Instagram account soon so we’ll also have that.
