Is there a vernal pool on your property that has frogs 🐸 and salamanders 🦎? Are you passionate about protecting that habitat and the wildlife that relies on it? Apply for our Vernal Pool Stewardship Award!

Follow our stewardship guidelines, survey for amphibian egg masses, and receive a sign to proudly display on your property!

Although vernal pools are only filled with water in the spring and fall, they provide important breeding habitat for many amphibians and invertebrates. Some species like Wood Frogs, Blue-spotted and Spotted Salamanders, and Fairy Shrimp, are dependent on these pools.

They also provide critical resources for a variety of other species, from other frogs to garter snakes to Great Blue Herons, and even moose!
