Elgin Theatre Company v. 2.0

Elgin Theatre Company v. 2.0 Mission: To challenge, inspire, nurture and entertain diverse artists and audiences. Later it became a fully independent group.

Elgin Theatre Company (ETC), known until July 1, 2005, as the Elgin Community Theatre, was founded in the spring of 1952 as an evening adult education class at Elgin Community College (ECC). Its first production was The Male Animal on April 4th and 5th, 1952, and its first full season of plays started that fall. For over 50 seasons, ETC has continuously produced high quality adult entertainment fo

r Elgin Illinois and the northwest suburbs of Chicago. From its founding until the late 1960's, ETC was supported by and closely associated with ECC, but with its own governing body. ETC was incorporated as a tax exempt, not for profit corporation, in 1970. Since its first production, ETC has been financially self supporting. ETC gratefully accepts grants and donations from both private and public bodies at any time. We focus on two goals:+production of high quality play +education in the theatre arts

The group draws actors, singers, dancers, carpenters, and a host of others from Elgin, nearby communities, and from as far away as Chicago. It draws its audience from the same area with most of the people living in and around Elgin. Our artistic direction has emphasized a mixture of popular musicals, comedies, dramas, and mysteries. ETC has attempted to meet a wide range of theatre interests with such offerings as Bus Stop, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Cane Mutiny Court Martial, South Pacific, Dracula, The Last of the Red Hot Lovers, Cinderella, On Golden Pond, Steambath, The Fantasticks, Arsenic and Old Lace, Nunsense, Cabaret, and Marvin's Room.

Synopsis: Fade is the story of Abel and Lucia, and of the relationship that develops between them. Mexican-born Lucia is a novelist who has just arrived into the bewildering world of television writing in Los Angeles. Exhausted by the unrelenting misogyny and racism of her new work environment, she finds herself staying late at the office where she meets U.S.-born Abel, who is also Mexican, who works as a custodian for the building. The friendship that grows between them starts off rocky as Lucia makes several assumptions based on their shared Mexican heritage, which rubs Abel the wrong way. Desperate for someone to be on her side, she makes amends and continues to reach out to Abel, who is slow to trust, but eventually they become friends. He listens to her vent her pain and frustration, and she acknowledges his presence and humanity, and then listens to his problems and history. As the relationship between them evolves, their story will take you in unexpected directions. Available Roles • Lucia – female Mexican-born novelist/TV writer in Los Angeles • Able – male American-born Mexican, Los Angeles office building custodian.
