Petunia’s adorable newborn is the result of a feral pig invasion through our back pasture. This tiny newborn points to our desperate need for new and safe fencing in that pasture. That takes money to do the work and we need your donations to help us prevent more piglets.

Being Kind in Texas

BEING KIND IN TEXAS In 1995, Nancy Jensen-Case bought a home on 10 acres outside of Elgin, TX. She and her daughter moved in with the happy anticipation of life in a rural setting with their two horses, Baby and Hazey. There were three horses living on poor pasture next to their new property; she and neighbors became aware that no one was caring for them and had no food or water. They contacted the Sheriff’s Department, Animal Control but got no response. Meanwhile, they were tossing bales of hay over the fence for the emaciated animals. Ultimately, all they succeeded in doing was angering the property owner who had moved to Colorado. That owner returned with a trailer in the middle of a winter night and loaded three animals that could barely stand. They never saw or heard of those horses again. Nancy’s lack of success in assisting the three horses ultimately led to her decision to offer lifetime sanctuary to other equines. In 1997 Nancy began by operating under the umbrella of another equine sanctuary organization to offer lifetime sanctuary to horses and donkeys. She quickly began to include sheep, goats and pigs; then came the dogs and cats. She named her property Dreamtime Animal Sanctuary and is its sole operator, with the help of occasional volunteers. She holds a Masters of Divinity and is a Board Certified Hospital Chaplain, working with death, dying and the grief and loss which accompany them and feels that there is a direct bridge connecting her work as a chaplain and her work as operator of an animal sanctuary; each informs the other. Current sanctuary residents include 13 horses, 13 donkeys, 7 sheep, 10 goats, 9 pigs, 37 chickens, 6 Guinea Fowl, two turkeys, a number of ducks, 8 dogs, 18 cats. The sanctuary is located on a rural road outside of Elgin, Texas. There, animals and human visitors alike find new life and hope. Hence, our logo, “Hope lives here.”

Dreamtime has been State of Texas certified incorporated as a nonprofit and is awaiting approval of 501c(3) status from the IRS.

Nancy relies on donations and the kindness of volunteers to operate Dreamtime.
